yea I'm not saying that he is not a big draw obviously he is. It's only logical that if a fighter is fighting on PPV more often his average will dip a little. If the guy is fighting every 1-2 years then people will say "Mayweather is fighting on PPV I better get in on this because I might not get the chance to see him fight for a long time." While if he's fighting every couple of months people can say "Well I don't like this matchup and I can just wait till Mayweather fights someone better in a couple of months and buy that one."
That wasn't even the main point though. Point is that if you look at MArgo and Marquez, two fighters with similar fanbases and two fights with similar pre-fight odds, and you look at the PPV numbers you can see that Pac outsold Floyd by 15% even though Pac vs Margo was priced at 10% more. And if you compare their career PPV numbers, PAcquiao has outsold Mayweather which means that in his boxing career Pac has generated more money than Floyd.
When you consider that the Mayweather-Marquez fight went up against a UFC PPV on the same night, a million PPV for that fight comes out looking more impressive than the 150K more that the Pacquiao-Margarito fight did. All and all throwing out the Pac-Clottey PPV, the last few PPV's from both Mayweather and Mosley have been in the same ballpark, between 1 mill and 1.2 mil.
Where do you get this that Pacquiao has outsold Mayweather on PPV? If you take the average PPV buys per fight, Mayweather has outsold Pacquiao by a considerable ammount. Take the like opponents, DLH, Hatton, Marquez.......in these cases Mayweather has left Pacquiao in the dust.
I'm talking about overall career PPV earnings Pacquiao has sold more PPVs in the USA in his career than Mayweather has.
Also I don't know how you define "left in the dust" but Pacquiao vs Hatton and Floyd vs Hatton did very similar HBO PPV numbers and depending on what your source is, they did the same number (850K) http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3158134
How many more PPV fights has Pacquiao been in? You can have a fighter fight 5 times and 300K ppv each and have a PPV total of 1.5 mil........ Then you can have another fighter fight 2 times at 700K PPV each....... I'm sorry, but the fighter who had 2 PPV fights is a better PPV draw even though he's sold 100K less in PPV total...... .......100K less, yeah, but in 3 less fights.:deal
If the roles were reversed. Philla would likely take the position you are taking simply because Pac would be int hat position.
Like I said above if a fighter is fighting on PPV several times a year it's only normal that his PPV numbers will be lower than if he was fighting every 1-2 years on average. Also, noone is arguing that Floyd today is not a bigger draw than Pacquiao was back in the day. I'm telling you that as we are here today, Pac is now the bigger PPV draw than Floyd and the sales against Margo and Marquez show that And also, Pacquiao's career PPV sales show that he has generated more money than Floyd throughout his career, making him the single active fighter who has generated the most money in boxing. The fact that Pac has more PPV fights than Mayweather is to his credit, not his detriment.
you know, there's a good chance that Oscar's average PPV sales are lower than Floyd's average, but I don't think anyone would argue that Floyd or Pac are bigger PPV draws than Oscar was.
