If Cotto beats Pac, it's because Cotto was the better man. Nothing more, nothing less. There's no connection to Pac's previous fights. Going up the weight divisions with success is not easy. And Pac isn't going up against just any 147er, he's going up against a great champ.

It can't taint what was already written. Of course this win would take him even further, but we'll have to wait for that.

He does NEED this win to really break that upper tier of ATG.

Pac is already established as an ATG., win or lose tonight.

ONLY IF........Cotto completely crushes him! If PAC and Cotto WAR for 10,11,12 rds that are even and back and forth it will still help his stock....but moreso for Cotto.

Nah, I don't think so. Shane Mosley lost twice in a row to two different guys, and people still act like he is one of the greatest boxers of all time...Roy Jones Jr. got pole-axed in the 2nd round, and it didn't taint his image. Nah, as long as Pacquiao is competitive, and doesn't get thouroughly outclassed, his stock won't drop much. I mean come on, he's fighting MIGUEL COTTO...no bum.

On the flip side, can you imagine how high Pac's stock will rise if he WINS???

well it might taint those wins. None of those guys he beat is Floyd Mayweather Jr. to be honest. That is why I think he should have fought Mosley tonight. If he could beat Mosley I would have been much more impressed than if he beats Cotto tonight.

i think so because pac has shown he can hang with 140-147 lbers if he dont beat cotto its simply because he is not as good as he is being made out to be also note he is 3:1 favourite so in betting terms itll be a upset if he looses

I think the OP has it right, but hasn't gone far enough.

If Pac loses tonight he is effectively stripped of all 49 wins. He also gets a couple of positive steroid tests added to his record for good measure, and a few DQ for kicking his opponent in the nuts. We will rewrite his record to say he came in 300 pounds overweight to all of his fights too.

Actually we will rewrite it so he was never a boxer, but was a ballet dancer. He tried to join the Russion Bolshoi ballet but he sucked as a ballet dancer. So we rewrite his whole career to being something gay that he wasn't good at.

If he loses tonight then he got successfully tried for nazi war crimes when he was a teenager.

Oh brother. So what if you fail at attempting something gigantic. That doesn't alter the past. What you accomplish is what counts. Do you think Ray Robinson losing to Joey Maxim altered his legacy for the worse?

You're right, Pac is much smaller than Cotto and definitely many times better!

I wonder what you're thinking now.... Did Pac go from top 20 to top 10? I know some people are now saying that Cotto is washed up but I don't think you're one of them.
