Who are you referring to exactly as "division"? Berto?, you honestly think Mayweather is scared of him? Cotto?, after the brutal knockout you think he is scared of him? Paul Williams?, sure you can make a case that Floyd might not fight him, just like we can make a case for Margarito turning down a career high pay-day to a rematch HE is supposed to run after. Anyone else? Oh yeah, Margarito.
Why would Floyd bother with Pac? He could of had another win over Oscar for big money again. I know it was close the first time but Floyd had him worked out, Oscar's stamina went whatever anyone wants to call it, the outcome would of been more one sided second time.
I don't think he would ever fight Cotto or Marg. Its too much risk for him. But he will fight Manny Oscared or Hatton again. He will never step up to ANY REAL challenges,
he will never fight margarito, end of story! he wont fight cotto as not a massive earner, and a big risk! he will fight either pac-man,DLH or hatton. Whoever comes out on top from there fights will fight PBF! Its a knockout competition for them really, and PBF has a bye to the final......
He won't fight Cotto because to beat Cotto you have to do what Margarito did to him and Floyd simply cannot do that. He also does not have the power to hurt Marg. The only way Floyd would fight either one of them and have a chance at beating them is if the fight were held in THE BIGGEST RING EVER! He stands no chance in a ring the size that Cotto/Marg fought in or smaller. He would have to fight them in a ring the size of the one he fought Baldomir in or bigger. In a huge ring I can see Floyd winning. His strategy would be pop shot hold run, not necessarily in that order. He would never exchange with either of them, or fight in a ring small enough where exchanges would be inevitable. Even in this case Cotto and Marg are capable of cutting off the ring. With Cotto being faster and better at cutting the ring, Cotto would have a better chance than Marg in a ring the size of a basketball court.
No doubt he will, IMO. Problem is, any version of Floyd is made to take Pacquiao apart. And I'd rather that didn't happen.
You honestly think that a fight with Cotto or Margarito would easily bring 5million?, and do you also honestly think that a PPV with either one of those would come even close to what Mayweather made fighting DLH and Hatton?, if yes then you need a reality check. Cotto might bring some good PPV buys back when Mayweather was active, something close to 500k, would be really surprised if it's more. A fight with Margarito, at the time, wouldn't bring nothing, after Cotto sure it would do good but before that, no. About talking about "top" Welterweights, who were the top welterweights right after his fight with Hatton?, you can mention two names only, Paul Williams and Miguel Cotto. Margarito coming off a loss to Paul Williams isn't "top welterweight" material, not avenging that loss makes it only worse. Cotto was already booked to a future fight with Margarito as Arum already revealed his plans back then, even before Margarito fought Williams Arum never wanted that fight and preferred that Margarito passes on it to fight Cotto, which Margarito didn't do and is confirming he has learned his lesson now by turning down a rematch even though the offer is BY FAR the best he's getting. So Cotto's plans were already clear at the time and even if they tried to make the fight, Mayweather and Arum aren't the best friends to start any negotiations and that's another story. Paul Williams was the only name you could mention and I do agree that a fight with him would have been good, but at the time was he a big enough name for a guy who wants only big fights?, the answer is no. Williams got as much as Mayweather would have gotten for beating Margarito back then and that's basically nothing, is he even talked about lately?, in reality he should be the man to discuss when it comes to this division but boxing is all about "names" and "hype" lately. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
