I don't give him much chance at all. Too old, too small, too worn out. But if by some miracle Pacquiao beats Thurman. Would that move him into top 10 ATG??? He's already somewhere between 12-18 or so. Easily the greatest p4p fighter since Roberto Duran and SRL. And he's right there with Leonard as it stands now. The CV of Pacquiao -Flyweight to Welterweight -Destroyed Miguel Cotto -Destroyed Marco Antonio Barrera -Absolute wars and basically dead even fights with Morales and Marquez - 25 year career Imagine if 40 year old Pacquiao pulled this one off.
Pac-Man beating Thurman wouldn’t be that big of a deal. He pulled s Floyd move and fought him at the “right time” did you see his last fight with Lopez? Thurman looked like easypickens. Also Thurman will be ok his bike so I hope Manny from Marquez 4 shows up. I have no horse in this race although I would prefer Manny to win because Thurman is gonna continue to duck Spence
Kind of hard to say this is the right time to fight a guy like Thurman. Since he's only 30 years old and hasn't been in any wars. Pacquiao was more war torn than Thurman by the time he was 17.
40 years old, been brutally KO'd, giving up 15 pounds on fight night... Thurman got caught and lost 2-3 rounds. He still beat Lopez wide in his tune up fight. It's going to be a magnificent win.
Does Thurman even rank in his top 5 wins? I'm not sure.. MAB, Morales, JMM, Cotto, ODLH. Would Thurman be a better win than Hatton, Bradley (who was also undefeated and much better form), Sasakul, Ledwaba, Margarito?
Imagine thinking that the guy who 'waited until the right time' was the 40 year old war torn veteran over half a decade past his prime and recipient of one of the most savage stone cold KOs of the previous era... who has taken more sustained punishment in one fight than his opponent has his whole career, but hes the one that doesnt get much credit because his undefeated 30 year old opponent had a mediocre showing in his last fight ya ok.
If I had to rate Pacquiao's wins based on the caliber of opposition, opposition's wear and tear and experience, and the dominance of the performance it would go like this. Tier 1 -MAB I -Cotto Tier 2 -Marquez II (arguably should be tier 1) -Morales II -Hatton -Sasakul Tier 3 -MAB II -Marquez III -Bradley I (robbery) -Bradley II -Bradley III - Ledwaba -Margarito -Mosley -Clottey Tier 4 -3K Battery -Julio -Lucero -Velazquez -Larios -Solis -Diaz -Rios -Algieri -Vargas -Broner I would consider tier 1 level wins to be ATG wins. Among the best wins in boxing history. Pacquiao and Roy Jones Jr. are the only active fighters I know of with wins on that level. Tier 2 level wins are career defining wins for most fighters and would get most guys into the hall of fame. Tier 3 are very solid wins that most champions would be lucky to have more than two or three of in their career. Tier 4 wins are just basic stay busy fights for championship level fighters. I didn't include DLH and Morales III because they were so drained and shot.
Thurman just came off a injury and Lopez made him work way more than he was suppose too if this wasn’t a right time to pick him then **** I don’t know when is. Let’s get this right Thurman is a good solid fighter but he’s seen his best days all those layoffs and injuries would have you think he’s been through a lot of wars.
And yet, you're calling for prime, big as hell Spence to fight Thurman and that would be an okay fight in your eyes. Basically, Thurman vs. anyone not named Pac is an okay fight, but because it's Pac, Pac is cherrypicking. Smh.
