If Pacquiao lost to Mosley, would he have lost to Mayweather?

If somehow Mosley pulled on a major upset tonight, do you think in history this would render Pacquiao undoubtably under Mayweather? I personally do. Sure Pacquiao right now has so much history and stuff that in a historians book will have him in higher regards than Mayweather. That being said, I believe that if Pacquiao somehow lost to Mosley, people would put 2 and 2 together and assume that since Mayweather blew away Mosley, he would blow away Pacquiao, and it would definently be hard to argue with. If Pacquiao lost to Mayweather, the super fight will never happen, in my opinion anyways, as Mayweather would have literally no reason to accept it.

This all being said, I see no way for Mosley to win :yep.

    What do you guys think?

    I'd probably agree.

I mean, I have Mayweather beating Pacquiao regardless of whether Pacquiao wins tonight or not. But yes, if Pacquiao loses, it's fair for people to rank Mayweather higher and assume he would beat Pacquiao.

Its a bad fight for Pacquiao. If he loses, he potentially loses a massive part of his legacy, and if he wins, he gets very little from anybody.

Foreman very easily beat Ken Norton and Joe Frazier who lost to Ali.

You put two and two together and you get......it does not matter.

    History son.....read it.

A little typo there, pal, but I agree. I think that if SSM pulls the upset, the Pac/FMJ fight will never ever happen.

it is true styles make fights. Hearns had a war with Hagler and knocked out Duran 2 rounds who went 15 with Hagler. Also, Duran lost a 15 round decision to Benitez more clearly than Hagler beat Duran, although Benitez would not beat Hagler over 15 rounds. The round robins are hard to predict, although the one thing common is that Duran lost to all the greats he fought, similar to Shane losing to Pacman tonight and his place being 3rd to Pacman and Mayweather solidified.
Yet I still do not think it means Mayweather would beat Pacman. If Mosley knocked out Pacman, it does not mean anything clear. Different style. Mosley beating Pacman does make things not as exciting for the Pacman/Mayweather fight. Pacman will lose a lot of luster unless he comes back in the rematch and beats Mosley.

I agree that if Pac did lose to old Mosley it would hurt Pac's legacy.

Which, as a Pacquiao fan, was the main reason I was so against this.

People are naturally going to use the Mayweather fight as a yard stick, but unfortunately for Pacquiao, Mosley will look far better against him than he did against Mayweather - mainly because of styles. Regardless of how shot Mosley is, Pacquiao will still allow him to make it a competitive fight. And like you say....

    • If Mosley wins, it'll be an absolute disaster.
    • If it's a competitive fight, Pac will be heavily criticized.
    • If Pacquiao beats him easily, it'll be because Mosley was shot and he knew it.
Other than getting major exposure and earning lots of money, it's a lose-lose situation for Pac. The only way he can look good, is if he destroys Mosley in spectacular fashion like noone else has done, in a way where Mosley's past-prime status wouldn't even factor in that much. I'm talking Pacquiao stopping him in the first 4 rounds before Mosley even has a chance to gas - which is highly unlikely.

IMO Pac is screwed with this fight for a possible fight against Mayweather.

    1. If Pac destroys Mosley with a devastating KO, Mayweather will find every reason NOT to fight him.

    2. If Pac loses to Mosley, Mayweather will say "I beat the guy (Mosley) that beat the guy (Pac), so why should I even bother to fight the guy (Pac)?

The only way this fight can go that will make Mayweather possibly want to fight, is a close split or close UD in Pacs favor. This might have Mayweather thinking, "heck i destroyed Mosley and Pac barely beat, I'll def whoop Pac's ass"

again, this is just my opinion.

If Pac lost to Mosley it would mean that...he lost to Mosley.

The only way the question gets answered is if they get in the ring together.

I agree with this logic wholeheartedly, but logic is something that in my opinion eludes the Mayweathers. If Pac loses to Mosley we will never see Pac-Mayweather

Styles make fights. Mosley lost, and strugged with Cotto....Cotto lost and really struggled with Margarito...Mosley destroyed margarito. Hand wraps or not, Margarito didn't have wraps for his chin.
Mosley is night and day with Mayweather. I would agree though that if Mosley would beat him...I definitely think Mayweather could.
