If Pacquiao/Marquez can do 400,000 buys, then why can't Cotto/Margarito do the same?

    Cotto/Margarito has been getting way more mainstream coverage and I would think the United States has a bigger Puerto Rican demography than Filipino (but I could be wrong). Plus, Cotto/Margarito on paper appears to be the more exciting fight.

    Yeah, and the millions of people in the Philippines account for 0% of the PPV buys.

    Pacman = semi superstar
    Cotto = partial superstar
    Marquez = minor boxing star
    Margarito = guy with 5 losses who hasnt beat anyone in particular

    semi superstar+minor boxing star>partial superstar+guy with 5 losses who hasnt beat anyone in particular

    This fight will flop. PPV nubers will be laughable. And all this talk about how many millions of fans both fights have will be proven to be a joke. These to fighter shared the same HBO card last April and recored the lowest rated world championship boxing rating in HBO history. This fight will flop

    Don't forget Cotto was fighting Gomez, who didn't really have a shot apart from hoping Cotto was overlooking him. Cintron was considered a possible but he was so dominated in the first fight most in the know called it for Margarito.

    Neither fight was as interesting as this fight. And it will show on the ratings.

    Less than 190k for Pac-Diaz!:lol: :lol: :lol:

    Cotto-Margarito will outsell that easily.

    The Latino fanbase, buys PPV boxing, but they can recognize a phoney matchup a mile away.

    Cotto-Margarito is a great matchup, and its icing on the cake that its Mexico vs Puerto Rico!:yep

    How many PPV buys did you predict for Pac vs Diaz again PacD???:lol: ;)

    Pacquiao is a bigger name than Cotto for now and Margarito is still unknown outside the boxing industry.

    Marquez-Pacman 1 set up the stage for fight #2. Marg-Cotto are going at it for the 1st time but just might be on their way for a rematch...I wouldn't be surprized ! If that happens...watch out, they'll get over 500 000 buys at that point !!!

    Pacquiao is a bigger name than Cotto and JMM is a bigger name than Margorito then add the Pacquiao-JMM fight was a rematch of a controversial fight that had been building up to the rematch for several years. Cotto-Margorito won't touch Pacquiao-JMM but it will beat his fight with David Diaz. I'd say somewhere between 200,000 to 250,000 buys for tonights fight.

    Pac/JMM 2 was in demand for 4 years

    Margo/Cotto was in demand for 4 months

    I'm guessing 350k for this. It is in a higher weight class so its possible it does over that. This is an intriguing match up for most, Cotto's skill vs Margo's size and stylistic advantage.

    Exactly and when you say "demand" only by "hardcore boxing fans" not Joe AVERAGE.. I somewhat dispute the 400K buys of Pac and Marquez because Bob Arum has been KNOWN to inflate his number and NOT publish them when they're not so favorable (see Malignaggi vs. Cotto which barely did 200K buys released by HBO and not Top Rank).

    I want this fight to do well because I would love to see Cotto and that guy who retired. But considering it's $49.95 USD, gas is high as hell here. I doubt it does 300K if it does that its a success IMO..

    I'm only seeing the fight becaues I've BOUGHT so many in the past and one of my friends want to show off his new TV and he's buying it.
