On paper it would be. Watch Jones vs Hopkins II, and see how B-Hop gasses badly in an extremely slow, easy, danger-free fight.

    Let's make a ban bet.

If Dawson wins by KO or by an average greater than 6 points on all three scorecards, I go for 6 months.

If not, you go for 6 months.

That's the way I feel. Therefor, I'd have to vote no. But I like Pascal, it's not a bias issue. I see it just like you, if it happens it was the thing that was bound to happen sooner or later if Hop kept on taking these fights.

MArtinez was a betting underdog in both fights, pascal is favoured ove rhopkins I think Martinez got this in the bag.

it's not all about being the underdog. It's about quality of opposition.

In 2009 Pac was a decent favorite in both his fights.

In 2007, Mayweather was a favorite in both his fights as well.

For me Pascal on top if he beats Hopkins, Martinez is the runner up. But if Pascal actually stops Hopkins it becomes a no brainer in my eyes.

    Not for me, still Martinez.

Age is the major factor in this bout. I wouldn't be surprised if Hopkins turns back the years like he did against Pavlik. But I also wouldn't be surprised if age catches up to him, possibly even resulting in a KO loss.

Martinez beats the Champion at Middleweight in Pavlik. Then KO's Williams in impressive fashion, defending those titles.

Pascal beats Dawson and becomes Champion at Light Heavyweight. Then beats an old Hopkins (a Hopkins whose last significant bout was 2 years ago).

I know which one looks better to me.

What if Hopkins turns back the years like he did against Pavlik, but Pascal still beats him?

It would undoubtedly be close between Martinez and Pascal for the award. But I guess it all depends on which Hopkins turns up...the Hopkins that took Pavlik to school, or an old Hopkins who needs to take breathers in-between his exertions.

Not in my book. Would probably put him 2nd though. Martinez is still that guy for me regardless of what happens in this fight. If JP were to KO Hopkins, I think it would likely speak more to Hopkins decline than to JP's performance, although if Hopkins was looking good and sharp and them got stopped, that would be a different matter.

Point is Martinez was dominant in his 2 fights. Pascal was not dominant vs Dawson and although he won it fairly, it seems pretty apparent that had Dawson fought with any sort of urgency earlier on that fight he probably wins. Hopkins is now a nametag. That being said, I'd lke to see Pascal do it.

If he becomes the first man to STOP Hopkins, then I say yes. Otherwise, Martinez has it locked up.

It seems like Martinez is going to be tough to beat for the award. For me its about quality of opponent and how you beat them being an underdog doesn't mean too much. I would rate Dawson and Hopkins as being slightly better than Williams and Pavlik but you could make an argument for it being the other way around. The reason Martinez should win is his ko of Williams not just beating him but a second round ko is very impressive.

If Pascal ko's Hopkins that will probably just make Hopkins look like age has finally caught him. Pascal would have had to ko Dawson in impressive fashion to match Martinez's ko of Williams. I'm rooting for Pascal as an out with the old and in with the new situation but he probably won't surpass Martinez regardless of the outcome. And Pacquaio is nowhere near Martinez and Pascal(if he beats Hopkins) for fighter of the year.
