Why should fighters be forced to compromise their ideal weight and hope through divisions? Not everybody is blessed with the metabolism PW has & so not everybody can hop between several divisions. Obviously winning titles in numerous weight classes adds a bit of extra stem to a guy's resumé, but dominating one weight class should be just if not more important than picking up paper-titles in several.

I'll put him at number two... I feel if he comes out victorious he has beaten a Kelly where no excuses will be allow about weight. He is the middleweight champ and Williams defeating him would mean a lot. Kelly is still young and the champ and at his prime. Williams has defeated Margarito who was consider a top 3 welterweight, ko Quintana in a rematch top 10 welterweight, and gave Winky a boxing clinic, something that hasn't occur to Winky in a long time. Which makes my argument why at number 2. Manny has look great, but defeating a declining DLH and popular name Hatton doesnt make you #1. If anything I still would have Mayweather over Manny at this point. If you have notice these rankings the last few years have gone to the popular guys, not to the ones making and facing true opponents in their weight class or at their primes. But things could change if Manny defeats Cotto, which will be Mannys first real test since his fight against JMM. I still feel Mosley should be number 1, but has to get active asap. Hopefully his fight against Berto takes place, since we all know Mayweather vs Mosley would not be happening:D.

I think it moves him into a strong #3, but I wouldn't object to anyone wishing to displace Mayweather if Williams is particularly dominant in his performance. This is also based on the fact that I have difficulty seeing how anyone doesn't already have Williams ranked around #5-6 currently. Other than Pacquiao and Mayweather, I don't think anyone is clearly better in a P4P sense. Keeping Mosley and Hopkins ahead of him is perhaps acceptable now, but it would not (assuming their continued inactivity) should Williams beat the legitimate middleweight champion of the world.

I see someof you getting sensitive already

Kp = undisputed & lineal (ithink) mw champ

And imo... Division hopping is a must in p4p argument... Imo... Nothing more nothing less... Don't get butt sore about it

There is obviously some disagreement over what P4P is. I think the correct interpretation is measuring overall skill level and NOT weight class jumping. Pdub may throw a lot of punches and that will make him look good against a weak puncher and defensive oriented fighter like Winky, but his defense was still sloppy and he had a low connect rate with the punches he did throw. Compare that to a Pac or Mayweather or JMM.

I learned my lesson by tipping Winky to beat Williams, I'm not making that mistake again. From what I have read I don't like your threads and posts WWM, I think you are very biased, but I have to agree with you on this one, Paul Williams has more dimensions to his game than Kelly Pavlik, he has better movement and more variety to his punches. I see Williams overcoming a few scary moments to outbox Pavlik and take a close-but-clear UD. If he does this, I would have him 7th pound-for-pound (behind Pac, Floyd, JMM, B-Hop, Mosley, Vasquez). But the four immediately above him (JMM, B-Hop, Mosley, Vasquez) have all had long, hard careers. I can see Williams ascending to top three within the next year or two. He is quality.

Dude, you cannot even get the well defined definition of undisputed right. Kelly holds 2 of 4 belts. 3 of 5 if you count the ring. Two other fighters hold 'world titles' at MW so he is NOT undisputed. Your P4P definition is just self serving to prop up Williams. Again, it is about overall skill level. Division hopping is only aided by the modern proliferation of weight classes.

What would you have done with Muhammad Ali in 1967? Or Hagler in 1982?

But what has he done since he left 147?

He beat a way past it Wright that was coming of two years of inactivity,he beat old man Phillips who was never much to begin with, and knocked out a bum in Kolle, division hopping doesnt mean much if you face weak competition.

I have mad respect for Williams just for taking this fight. If he wins, I would put him up to #3 P4p behind PBF and Pac.

I think Paul is already in the top 10, and, because he's a natural welterweight, this victory over a strong, but limited middleweight champion will put him at 3.And I just don't get B-Hop being rated as high as he is now.As much as I admire him for what he's accomplished,he's 4-3 in his last 7 fights and hasn't fought since when?-when he beat Pavlik of course. And how long ago is that?

Well said,Tommy. But Paul has beaten prime Margarito and Quintana, and it appears that none of the welters want a piece of him, either. And even though Pavlik is limited,he's still universally recognized as one of the top middles in the world.

The reason he had to fight these guys is that no one wants a piece of a 6'1-6'3 Southpaw who throws hundred punches a round. He effectively froze three divisions.

When you have warrior like Mosley avoiding you you deserve some respect.
