If Pavlik defeats Hopkins, who should he fight next?

Don't put stock into what Joe says. The links have been posted numerous times where he says he won't fight a shot Jones, Pavlik is THE fight.

 

pavlik should take an easy gimmee fight to recharge the batteries if he beats hopkins.

exactly that type of fight.
the type of fighter that pavlik is and with his young age, no sense burning him out.

arum should have told HBO that if they want to get a promoters liscence then do so, but i will matchmake pavlik my way.

i think the hopkins fight where he is moving up 10 lbs and leaving the historically prestigous middleweight division just because HBO says so, is detrimental to pavlik`s career in the long run.

 

Maybe a better mandatory? As I said above, I don't think Joe will fight Kelly, but IF that comes up, Kelly is on record as saying he wants Joe before "he gets one day older". I think that is the fight he would want, but Arum may want Abraham. Let Joe squirm after screwing over his buddy Warren and jocky for negotiating leverage.

I think at some point they (hbo) HAVE to put up for the mandatory defenses because they want Pavlik to keep his titles, but Arum may have to accpet that Pavlik will take a cut in pay to do it. And other than MW, who at AA has ANY prayer at the moment?

 

Pavlik. He has fought better competition, and in spite of what people here say, I think is the better boxer. Sorry, being able to clam up doesn't equal superior boxing skills in my book. Pavlik's pressure style will keep him in his shell more than the usual 2:30 per round he spends in it now. Pavlik has the decided reach advantage and knows how to use it. He will wear AA down and stop him late, IMO. AA's only hope is to lull Pavlik to sleep, AKA Edison Miranda, and land his knock out punch. Kelly is more disciplined and I see AA being more wary.

 

there is another way.
keep pavlik very busy, raking up defenses 4 to 5 times a year if need be , taking big fights when they come , but keeping pavlik in the public eye and his popularity will snowball to an extent that even v no names he gets big purses and hBO ask him to remain on there network.

if pavlik starts yo yoing between divisions and sufferes a loss in a non title fight , he could well get into a glen johnson type limbo.

i would prefer him to build his legacy at middleweight , or fight calzaghe.

just like calzaghe , hopkins is a no win fight for pavlik unless he does a number on hopkins , which i do not think he will.

HBO are calling to many shots on a fighter like pavlik who has only come onto the mainstream scence in the last 2 years.

he should be allowed to build and progress at his own pace and not at a pace HBO decide.

I suspect it is different. Pappa Calzaghe saw Pavlik first hand. Pavlik/Calzaghe was THE fight to be made. Joe had to choke on his own words to avoid Kelly and fight RJJ. Bhop 'aged him overnight'. :deal
