Would he have got the title fight in 2005 with Hopkins? He was 22 do you think he could have beaten that version of Hopkins, Pavlik only come to the publics attention last year if he had gone to the olympics instead of Taylor would he have been built up the Way Taylor had been prior to his fight with Hopkins.
it is also very true of calzaghe in the 1992 barcelona olympics where he would have been a near cert to medal and calzaghe never went because of boxing politics. i forget who the uk representitive was except he lost in the first round to byrd. calzaghe was unbeaten as an amatuer at 165 last time calzaghe lost as an amatuer he weighed 147. bringing an olympic gold or medal into the pro`s with you definatley gives you instant recognition and marketabilty 10 to 15 fights before a fighter without this pedigree.
I think Jermain had more of what it takes for amature rules. Quick hands score points if not damage. I think to this day his boxing is bothered by it. He is used to 'scoring' more than fighting. He was shocked in the second fight with Pav because the judges suddenly weren't giving him as much credit for clean, but non damaging shots as he was getting in the first match up. Which is why Calzaghe would have problems with Pavlik! :yep
If Kelly fought the 2005 version of Hopkins when He not Taylor got a shot at BHOP do u think he would have won?
