If Pavlik wins tonight should he go after Hopkins?

He took hopkins in the chase after calzaghe. Thinking he was good enough to beat both, falling at the first hurdle will have brought him back to earth. He should stay away from hopkins and develop his skills elsewhere

Kelly Pavlik needs to take that ass whooping from Hopkins like a man and walk the other direction. It is still a lose/lose proposition for Kelly because if he wins everyone will say B-Hop was shot and if he loses again he is back at square one.

Useless fight. If he loses again he will look even worse considering how bad Hopkins has looked in the two fights since. And even if he wins he's not getting that much credit for the same reasons.

He would get even less credit for a win then he would have the first time and even more flack if he lost again.

This reminds me of the talks of a Trinidad vs Hopkins rematch right before Tito got raped by Winky.

If Pavlik tries Hopkins again, his corner should bring some of this...

I wouldn't call it useless by a long shot. It's not about credit from a magazine; it's about the fighter's psyche. If Pavlik wins, there's a measure of redemption there that helps him out far more than mainstream criticism of the win means. Of course there's a damn good chance he loses again, but it's not interesting if fighters never show the balls to take fights they shouldn't win.

We've seen a very similar thing play out with Hopkins-Jones. Sure, nobody's giving Hopkins much credit for the win. But for Hopkins, was the win useless? Absolutely not.

Why would he risk it when B-Hop already has him figured out?

As the middleweight champion the only fight he should push for if he gets by Martinez is Paul Williams. Williams is the top 160 challenger and they now have a bit of a fued going. The fight is a natural on numerous levels and the one Pavlik needs. But, whenever Pavlik decides to move up in weight than a Hopkins rematch would be a good choice. Actually facing the winner of a Hopkins-Bute fight would be good. Hopkins has slowed down since their last fight and by the time a rematch could ever happened Hopkins would be that much older. Hopkins has a big name, high pfp ranking, and the only man to beat Pavlik. I'd like Martinez, than Williams, and if he moves up in weight than a Hopkins rematch would be fine with me.
