How does a Cotto fight establish Floyd's legacy?:huh If Floyd retired right now at this moment, he'd be on his way to the hall of fame.

To be honest, I don't think it really matters.

I would love to see a Floyd Cotto fight, but someone will put a 1 on Miguel's record anyway IMO.

Floyd is still the best fighter of this generation if he doesn't fight Cotto and he's still head and shoulders above the next closest fighter.

I think that Floyd doesn't need Cotto to secure his legacy ... He's accomplished so much during his career -- I think Cotto would only add another undefeated fighter that PBF has faced ...

I think reguardless if they fight or not Floyd will see be the best of this generation.

What if he does fight Cotto and beats him ... whats going to be the next thread?

When is Floyd going to quit ducking Pavlik?

why beat him impressively why should it have to be impressive knowing that mayweather didn't want to face him and cotto being a man that he is is willing to show the people that he is the best

Honestly it is my opinion that Floyd has put himself in this position, I beleive part of it was to maximize gross income while allowing the younger guys to better establish themselves in the sport, for example this fight could have took place last yearh (Cotto vs Margarito) but I dont think that the winner would really be in a position to demand a fight with Floyd, Now since Margarito has faced his mandotory and lost, and rebounded by beating the IBF champ, Cotto holding on to the WBA title in defending against Judah and Mosley I think the fight now between Cotto and Mayweather makes sense even more so.
that is if Cotto can win, either way its a win win for Floyd if this fight goes deep both Cotto and Margarito will be softened up for Mayweather Jr. if Floyd retires with out fighting the winner or if he continues to do what he has been kiss everything that Floyd has tried to accomplish in the sport good bye.
Question is does Floyd even care?

Floyd's legacy would be tarnished if he didn't take on the winner of this upcoming fight. His legacy at the lower classes is secure, but his stay at welter would be hard to take seriously and anyone who doesn't see that will be suprised in a few years when his name is brought up.

The collective memory of boxing is hard on fighters who are percieved to duck challenges. Just look at SRL and Pryor, some still go on about this and SRL fought and beat twice the competition that Floyd has.

Enough with this stuff... just another undefeated fighter. Provided Cotto gets past Margo, this would be the seminole fight of Floyd's career, and easily the most important fight of his career since leaving 135lbs.

He's just talking, lying, for marketing.

He won't be the best ever if even if he beats Cotto.

He isn't the best anything while he's in 'semi-retirement' and taking bull**** irrelevant matchups inbetween his rasslin' publicity stunts. That **** is shameful for boxing, how can anybody take it seriously whilst the supposed best fighter acts like that?

Cotto is the #1 welterweight for me

    :lol::lol: Not fought anybody. Classic.

To Orishaman. Floyd doesn't need Cotto he'd easily go down an an ATG and a Hall of Famer but he won't even be considered the best ever.

That claim is impossible to get and will forever be impossible.

    Cotto-Mayweather will happen 2009.

honestly, in 20 years no one is going to give a ****. Floyd's on his way out of boxing and Cotto is in his physical prime. I don't think either fighter will be judged together. Floyd already beat Corrales a month before Cotto even debuted.

fighters rule different periods. RJJ had his, Floyd has/ is having his, hopefully Cotto will have his. Floyd will claim he's the best and he has a right to say that especially if he retires undefeated. you can question his resume, which is very good, but you can't deny the talent. I dislike Floyd but he is one of the most talented fighters i've ever seen.

Amazing how you forget to refer to this as also his 3rd 4th and 5th weight classes. And you fail to mention anything he did before he moved up in weight.

But I love the blown up Hatton part. It's amazing how he becomes a blown up fighter in that fight yet he weighed 154 on fight night against Floyd.

Do you know what he weighed on fight night against Collazo? He weighed 160.

Do you know what Hatton weighs as a Jr WW on fight night? He weighs aywhere from 151-154.

Damn. It seems to me like Hatton was in perfect shape for their fight.

Also, it's funny you mention an SD for the Oscar fight but claim the judges for the scorecards wrong for his first fight against Castillo. Don't you think the one judge got it wrong in the Mayweather-DLH fight? Or do you really think Mayweather lost?
