i was just thinking that. it seems that everyone is desperate to find the next challenge to wlad they are rushing anyone with any potential into a fight with him. povetkin might be pretty good some day, enough to put up a fair fight, but why not let him develop naturally first. the heavyweight division is like an assembly line: the promoters keep pumping out heavies and the SECOND someone shows promise, throw him in against the best heavyweight in the world. vargas was a ****ing titan who fought everyone, RIGHT away. he had the talent and drive so they let him loose on the division. the problem is that when you learn to box against the elites and you fight world class fighters back to back to back 1) you're gonna lose 2) you're gonna be in some wars. let casper the friendly boxer build himself up a bit BEFORE he loses to wlad
If his promoters didn't think he could make a case for himself, they wouldn't have put him into that tournament with Byrd, Brock and Chambers. The guy is very good. As per "rushing him", he's 29 years old and will be 30 when his fight with Wlad goes down. He's taken on quite a few good HWs...and the window of opportunity is closing with Haye and Arreola (and the developing group of Wilder, Fury and Ustinov to name a new), there's not going to be much opportunity for a closing in on 30 heavyweight once this division picks up. Basically it's not NOW or NEVER...but that time is approaching.
Sounds like Atlas is already working his magic. Tearing his fighter down & filling him with self doubt. Good Job Teddy!!!
haha am i the only one on here that likes teddy?? moorer and tyson were already filled with self doubt. atlas didn't have to help much
I would say it, and I think it would be a good idea if he did. Povetkin is a great amatuer champ and has a good pro career, but he just does not look ready for your boy. He should go back and fight some tall power punchers- Grant, Briggs, McCline, Dokiwari, these sorts of guys, concentrate on some kind of defense, and then come back in a a year or two. A lot of folks say that Wlad's style is just all bad for him, but it couldn't hurt and at leat would make things more intruiging. I like Alex a lot and had hoped that him and Wlad would have a series of great match ups, but even I have to admit that the only way that he could make things competitive is if he has a truly iron chin.
