Would he have to take it in the first place? Reaction Time goes down after 30. That makes a huge difference in combat sports... CRT combined with type 2b muscle fibers are the most important talents for reading and preventing a shot from landing.
And why did his work rate decline? When it’s all said and done I take AJ over everyone at this time , that combo that dropped Povi was nice.
I'm not claiming Povetkin was prime. He's a solid top 10 contender and a good win. I'd like to see him and Ortiz battle it out for the over 40s championship sometime soon.
Not to mention, a 39 year old guy who has had many tough fights, even if he is very durable to begin with, is going to take the same punch less well at age 39, than at age 28 when he was less damaged and took less punches OVERALL. And at age 39, a boxer's legs and stamina are lower. Meaning, when a fighter gets hit by a punch whilst they're tired, they'd be more affected than when they aren't tired. I believe Povetkin would've taken that same punch in the first round much better without getting stopped. But it landed when Povetkin was already fatiguing, which is why Povetkin couldn't recover from the damage.
Povetkin's speed has dropped off of late and he's not as fluid as he was. His reactions are slower. Take 3-4 years off of him and I think he beats Joshua. That said, Joshua may not have peaked yet himself.
Exactly my belief. Also common sense when you think about it. Some posters here tend to think that boxers recover 100% between fights like a video game... The truth is that the human body is more like a window of glass. You throw stones at it and it breaks here and there, then you repair it with glue or tape. Next stone will have an even easier time breaking the glass than the previously thrown. And the glass will not automatically recover in a year or two. David Price consists of million pieces of glass covered with ducktape all over it - always ready to crack by the next kid on the block. It took Povetkin 39 years to finally break.
I don't think so. He still looked good and was on his toes at the time of the KO. He just left his jab out there too long and Joshua countered over the top with a perfect overhand right. That was the shot that effectively ended the fight. AJ set it up by 3 single jabs to the body. The whole sequence was sweet. Props to AJ. Very well done.
Why? Old age. His speed and activity visibly slowed in the final two rounds. He's 39. That's why. When you slower and tired, you become much easier to hit. Look Ali or Louis below the age of 39, easy targets, slower...
The animal that took out Takam and Perez stops Joshua late. And spare me the “Melosterium doe!” **** because anyone with half a brain isn’t buying Joshua is clean.
