The popular names mentioned here make perfect sense, though boxing being what it is, and Foreman being quite flawed though devastating, leads me to think he'd lose to some unfancied fighter somewhere. Maybe more than one.
I agree, but I still have the uproariously unpopular opinion that FOTC Frazier stops him in 10. Not entirely sure on Jack Johnson, either. Louis kos George in 7. Liston wins a UD and probably knocks him down (though taking some extremely ugly, knee-shaking shots along the way). 60s Ali has him stumbling all over the ring, helpless, in 10.
Very, very good breakdown of the topic, and one which makes a lot sense, will look to future posts with eagerness . keep well.
Seriously, Louis doesn't stand a chance? He'd be favorite if anything. Foreman with his wide open defense would have to deal quickly with Louis, otherwise he'd get stopped in brutal fashion.
George KO's Louis in 3 at most. There's no way Louis can beat Foreman. I agree about Ali and Liston. Louis sure as hell ain't no favorite. Foreman would use him for a rag doll. He'd push him off balance like he did with Frazier and then he'd pound him.
Like he did with Young or Ali? Or Peralta? Or Lyle? Louis didn't fight like Frazier, it's pointless to compare him to Joe. No, Foreman was not unbeatable and he had plenty of weaknesses. Most fighters weren't good enough to exploit it, but Louis definitely was.
Ali and Young have far better footwork than Louis. And Lyle was stronger than Louis. Yes, Foreman had weaknesses, but Louis is not the one who can beat him, he's too weak to stand a chance. Foreman is vulnerable to slick fighters with great footspeed, which Louis ain't.
What made you believe that Louis lacked strength? He never lacked strength and he faced plenty of very strong men.
I meant that he lacked strength compared to Foreman. Frazier could not hurt Foreman at all cause Foreman kept pushing him off balance when he tried to set up his punch. Foreman will do the same to Louis.
Frazier tried to pressure Foreman, because he had huge reach disadvantage and couldn't fight with Foreman on outside. Louis was a counter puncher who could do miracles from outside. Seriously, why do you even mention Frazier? Louis fought nothing like Frazier and he'd not try to fight like Frazier against Foreman.
I think George would be much too strong and rough for most champions. Clever fighters who can do what Jimmy Young and Ali did have a fair chance. But it would have to be their best night. ( Jack Johnson, Gene Tunney, Ezzard Charles, Muhammad Ali) Tough, hard punching right hand punchers have a chance to achieve what Ron Lyle almost did. But it would have to be their very best night. (Jim Jeffries, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Max Baer, Rocky Marciano, Sonny Liston) Counter punching fighters with a lot of heart who George avoided like Jerry Quarry in some slim way possibly fair well too. (Walcott, Schmeling, Ingo, Braddock) But the odds would be against them winning.
