Roy would have had a very very tough time dealing with Tyson in the first round and the ref is not going to help. Jones fights very fair and rarely breaks rules and he'd be facing a guy the polar opposite. Tyson would manhandle him on the inside/hit on breaks/throw rabbit punches/etc. Then you have to consider bending his arm like he did Botha/biting an ear or resorting to something else to physically hurt Jones. Then, he throws the big shots when Roy is in range. even if they don't land clean, they will move Jones and he won't do anything but coverup. When Roy looks to the ref for help, Tyson punches. He does not have the strength of a Lewis or Holyfield to hold his own or at least neutralize those roughhouse tactics. And it isn't as if a ref is going to disqualify Tyson early and warnings will not stop the guy from overpowering him. But those roughhouse tactics set the table for harmful punches and he won't shake them off or discourage Tyson from doing more of the same. I think it would have been a very ugly fight for the sport and it would not done the sport 1 iota of good.
All Roy had to do was survive the first few rounds til a Tyson that clearly was not in shape gassed and cruise to a UD. Tyson was too sluggish at that point with all he had was a big punch. Would loved to have seen Byrd/Jones
Jones UD for me, Tyson was shot to **** he would come out flying first 2 rounds trying to catch Jones then slow down considerably for the rest of the fight making him a sitting duck for Jones. People have an image of Tyson fixed in there mind of Pre 1990 he just wasn't the same man he still had his power but nothing else the guy got beat by fighters who weren't fit to lick his boots he was that shot! He was just a huge name and a huge payday for everyone because the public was and still are fascinated by the man.
