Hopkins has a hugely overrated resume. He dominated a poor crop of opponents, ducked Jones and Calzaghe in their primes, fought a couple of fighters with weight issues and some who simply weren't that good.

Prime Hopkins would have lost to Taylor, Calzaghe, Winky, Dawson and Jones. He's lucky people pay too much attention to his age and excuse his poor showings.

Even though I have nothing but love for Bhop I 100% co-sign your statement, how do BHOP rank ATG wise because he rarely gets ranked alng with the greats?

He didn't "duck" Jones - he actually lost a decision to him. Hopkins has got some good names on there: Glen Johnson, Trinidad, De La Hoya, Mercado (to a lesser extent), Tarver, Pavlik, Pascal. Not earth-shattering, but solid none the less.

Hope eberybody is having a good time but nobody said that RJJ got criticized b4 he won that dubious decision against Antonio Tarver so what is this thread still about? Just to say that he ducked Jones and Calzaghe but he fought them after all, and Winky and Dawson and Jones again and Taylor twice. So keep on having a good time folks or else you can turn into those booty websites...

He ducked by clearly over pricing against somebody that already gave him a L, not that Roy intended to rematch him when they both were in their primes, Hopkins tried to duck, and gave Roy a out

BHOP could never deal with speed, even a fat ODH gave him issues

He also ducked Calzaghe in their primes in 2002.

He demanded far too much money for the rematch, just like he wanted too much to fight Calzaghe. Was he worth 50/50 against Jones and was he worth $6m against Calzaghe? No way.

He has good names on resume, yeah, but Johnson was green, Trinidad was a welter, De La Hoya was a welter, Tarver had weight issues and looked awful, Pavlik was an alcoholic, Pascal was a good win, Winky looked awful etc..

Good names but he didn't beat any of them, bar Pascal, at their best. If he had, he'd have a rock solid record but he didn't.

Glen Johnson was unbeaten and 28 when Hopkins fought him. Trinidad was unbeaten and a big favourite - the most feared guy on the planet. Tarver was the RING LHW champ coming off wins over Roy Jones and Glen Johnson. Kelly Pavlik was unbeaten and a rising star - and the favourite going into the fight. Winky was coming off a good run of quality wins. I agree that DLH may have been slightly too small, but it's still a good win imo. Of course his opponents are going to make excuses - but if you take excuses into account, no boxer had a good win ever.

Prime Taylor was barely able to edge a 40 year old Hopkins. Calzaghe's seven years younger and was just barely able to outwork a 43 year old Hopkins to a SD win. Winky lost to old man Hopkins, and Jones is the only guy to beat Bernard anywhere close to his prime. Like it or not, his age does factor in quite a bit even though he's been able to do more at this age than any fighter in history.

You can argue that Hopkins was on the best run of his career when he faced Calzaghe (beating Wright, Tarver then Pavlik straight after). Then three years later he beat the number 1 LHW to regain the title, it wasn't until last week that he actually lost again. Calzaghe had never fought at LHW, and was 36 years old himself, past his prime. Calzaghe won the fight 116-111 on one judges scorecard, I thought he won 115-112 personally. Close fight, but clear win for Joe.

What had Hopkins accomplished when he faced Jones? Remember that it took him another two attempts to win a world title.

Furthermore, it was Hopkins that ducked Calzaghe when both were prime.
