he would have been top 5 fighters of all time.
but people are rating pacman above RJJ. RJ destroyed his place in history. by not leaving the sport after the tarver fight. if people thought he was unbeatable at 168lbs imagine what you guys would have said if he left on top.

Nah, he doesn't have the top to bottom resume to make the top 5 i'm afraid. You need to explain why he would be above Ezzard Charles who had better wins at MW, LHW and HW.

Yeah, you need to say why you rank Jones above Charles when Charles has better wins than Jones at 160, between 161 and 175 and up at heavy.

Your opinion on their skills doesn't count for much, frankly.

I agree. When you look at his resume there are Hall of Fame fighters missing for really top ATG. Everyone wants to put fighters at the top 5 ATG without realizing how great a spot that is and how it has to be earned.

based on what? beating james toney and montell griffin?

oh please what a lame bunch of dimwits the jones fans are! prime jones guy got smashed by glenn johnson deal with it,he spent a decade fighting cans as soon as he stepped up he got smashed! he even fought pazienza at 168

people think the james toney victory was something straight out of a superman comic, you americans are delusional! styles make fights jones was a hit n run fighter always has been, as soon as he became complacent look what happened

and dont give me the ruiz **** im not falling for that!there were half a dozen guys from smw upwards who would have done the same thing to ruiz.

If he retired afther the Ruiz fight, then history would have been very kind to him. I think eventualy we would have seen him being ranked as #1 ATG.

However we now know better that Jones was not superman, that Tarver has his number.

To me, Jones should be given the same policy I would give any great fighter, like a Duran for instance. It's what you prove you can accomplish, not how bad you get that matters. It doesn't matter to me what poor performances Jones has had since his major accomplishments. It doesn't alter the past at all. If he lost a hundred matches by knockout right now, it doesn't change what he did accomplish in the slightest. Everybody gets older, everybody has bad days at the office, etc.

I mean, Duran's place in boxing history changed because of what he continued to accomplish after his excellent reign as a lightweight champion. Not the things that happened when he took a 50 mg dose of Hellwithitall and stopped the Leonard fight or didn't train properly or went into the ring in his late forties with tough guys. Leonard's place doesn't change because of his loss to Norris or Camacho.

Jones knew he wasn't what he used to be and still was fighting guys like Tarver and Johnson, then Calzaghe. So what if he lost? What's done is done. Every loss doesn't erase a win. Did Joe Louis's place change because he was old and faded and got knocked out by Marciano? Of course not. He still dominated the biggest division of the sport for about twelve years. If your whole legacy is based on one or two shaky accomplishments, that's another matter but these guys had a heck of a lot more than that.

No way. People are overrating thier favorite fighters as far as ATG lists. It should objective. Roy did not fight prime HOF fighters.
