Robinson is said to have had better speed and power at WW..Basilio wouldnt have made it..I say Robinson KO's Basilio by the 8th.
Peak WW Robinson would take it probably 9-6. I still don't see him having an easy time with Basilio at his best.
I think both Robinson and Basilio were better welterweights than middleweights. Outside of Gavilian Basilio is better than any welterweight Robinson fought. Robinson is better than Basilio and anyone he's fought. Robinson was also more sescsful at welterweight than Basilio was. I think Robinson wins.
Robinson was way past prime when he went 1-1 with Basilio at MW, I`d guess that being at his absolute peak at WW about 10 years earlier & having never lost to a WW in his entire life, he`d be a very strong favourite to hand Carmen his arse. You never know I suppose but I know where my money`d go.
Having seen Ray Robinson as his welterweight zenith several times, my money is on Robinson stopping any WW version of Basillio in a late round...Gavilan was a different type of fighter than Basillio, who punched faster and could avoid punishment better than the tough Carmine...
I'm going to say that Ray wins this 11 out of 15 rounds against Carmen.Needless to say, it would still be a tough fight, even for the prime Robinson.
I think the biggest difference here would be Robinson`s legs. He would have them at Welterweight. His movement would have been much better and more consistant. Key to not letting Basillio get inside as much. Robinson`s overall speed and reflexes would have been much better in his prime at `147lbs. I think he might stop Basillio or at least win a clear decision.
