    I suspect that he would have fought Pastrano before Patterson.

    Valdez himself would have been on the slide by then, so it might have been better than fighting a younger contender.

    As for the idea that Marciano was avoiding Valdez, the evidence is very weak.

    It might just be one of those fights that the stars didn't align for!

    Valdez?He was just contender!He fought against Moore and lost!Rocky fight the better and that was Archie!In eliminiation match Valdez and Moore fought and winner would face Marciano!
    And who did Valdez really beat?He was beaten by Archie twice,Baker twice,Satterfield,Machen...he was not really anything good to be champion and he was not near level of Moore!
