If rocky marciano had came out of retirement to fight could he have beat Ingemar johanson

Ali of course was going to big up Marciano, if anyone was going to promote a 'fight' they were in it was Ali, not forgetting Marciano died 3 weeks or so after the computer fight, anything but praise in months after for Marciano would have been ill advised, of course Ali did take legal proceedings following film release for defamation etc.

if he'd had the foreknowledge to nurse his bad back properly, he'd have been able to train fully for it and yes then he'd be in with a chance. Crocked as he was, he was never going to get back in shape for elite or even world level boxing. Opponents would notice he wasnt matchfit and benefit from it by simply taking him the distance.

But if he had got in shape - not a great chance against a man so prime and young, just a fair shot... but I dont think you could realistically favour him. There would be other contenders more deserving by then.

Unfortunately Marciano didnt have the support needed and was riddled with injuries, so he was wise to stay out of it. And to be fair even if he had that support and even if he had got past Johansson, Patterson's speed and footwork would befuddle him and Liston was just round the corner who would have knocked him flush out.

Ingo and patterson would have serious chance against rocky prime vs prime too, specially patterson with his huge advantage in speed

Marciano would plaster Ingo prime for prime. Patterson's speed would be a factor, but he'd be only one flush right hand away from destruction. I think Patterson would get stopped mid to late rounds in a fight he was ahead on the cards.

 

Lou Duva was helping Rocky train for his comeback against Ingo and felt very confident that Rocky still had enough to beat Ingo. He also said Rocky at that time didn’t want to deal with Patterson’s speed. That is why Rocky stopped training for the comeback after Patterson beat Ingo in the rematch.

 

I think this would have been a fight to far for rock. At that point in time he d have lost to much. Marciano would have been made to look to slow and ineffective against Ingo. He loses by a unanimous Dec, though he may have a few moments of success against the ordinary swede. A prime rock would have battered him in five rounds, but this version to gone to pull the trigger.
