If Rocky Marciano is so overrated, why has nobody else done what he did?

  1. You mean fight a bunch of washed up has beens and get credit for doing it? Manny Pac does that now.

Foreman, Lewis, Bowe, Ali and so many other fighters would of gone so called undefeated fighting mob control et ups. The person who made this thread has to be white.

Marciano is criticised for beating old men. So, current world champion Archie Moore was too old at 39, but when Ali fought Sonny Liston who was the same age (Ali thought he was 40, and all of Liston's people swear he was around that age), that's considered a great achievement. Not to mention the fact that Ali beat Moore when he was 46!

Also, Marciano is criticised for beating a 33-year-old Ezzard Charles, but Ali gets praised for his great performance against a 34-year-old Cleveland Williams, who had just been shot! (I actually mean shot with a gun)

I could go on forever. Jersey Joe Walcott was the world champ at age 38 and Marciano beat him twice. Joe Louis was 37 and Marciano beat him. Some guys are still really good in their late 30s. It happens. The Klitschko brothers come to mind.

    Use your brains, my friends.

  3. Trying to rationalize you racism huh?

Sonny Liston was past his prime and Cleveland Williams was never that good in the first place

Louis was only fighting because he was in debt and Walcott had lost 16 or so odd times by the time Marciano got to him. They were washed up

Marciano made a career of fighting has beens

People think that Marciano's 49-0 record is similar to JCC jr., or the first 50 fights of JCC Sr, or even Gayweather.

    He is way underrated.

He is basically a cruiserweight fighting at heavyweight. If he is fighting today where heavyweights are 6'5" and weighing 250 pounds, I don't think he will fight in the heavyweight division. He would be a cruiserweight and he would dominate today.

No he wasn't! Rocky was about the same size as other Heavy's of his era.

And for all the size of today's heavies, they still HORRIBLY SUCK! And would be beaten by heavies of the past.

    ****ING NOOBS!

Rocky is IMO the most overrated boxer of all time. His resume doesn't stack up. I've seen list where he was top 11 all time. He is more known for what he did outside of the ring than in it.

Appearing in tv shows, film based on him, and his Super fight with Ali. He KO Ali in the 14th I believe.

Most of Walcott's loses came early in his career. He was similar to Hopkin's in that he was a very late developer, and he was probably just about at his peak when he fought Rocky.

Louis had been out of his short retirement for about 2years, and was only 37 years old, when he fought Rocky. He most probably was a bit past his best but it would not be by much [he had not taken a lot of punishment]. The fight was not very competitive and for for Louis to have won he would have needed to be significantly better than he had been on the night.

There seems to be a lot of nasty posts written on ESB about Marciano, but not about any of the other fighters from back then. Most of this is probably down to racism. I suspect that if Marciano had not been an American there would be a lot more of this type of posts.

Rocky is aewsome. He defeated four all time greats in six fights, and leading contenders like Lastarza and Layne. He is undefeated. Anyone who disrespects his record is just plain stupid.

Hey beatle remember Sonny Liston was killing everybody in a completely different and much better era of boxing, and he was not 40 years old are you kidding? Sonny was roughly about 32 years of age and was in his prime when Ali took the title from him, everybody was scared of Liston for good reason, and Ali dispatched him, I don't think sonny ever declined for that matter until he faced Martin. That does not compare with Rocky beating a 39 year old Walcott who was only boxing so he could get out of his debts. Rocky's best career opposition averaged an age of 37, thats out of 4 guys. Out of his 49 bouts he only had about 6-7 decent fighters with 4 of them being past their prime legends.

And nobody really pays much mind to Ali's victory over Moore, that was really early in Ali's career, it merely was a stepping stone for Ali. Ali's legacy is barely based on a guy like Moore. And remember Ali faced the greatest opposition during the greatest era of boxing. He beat them all at least once. By the time he was 25 years old he had already dispatched of guys such as Cooper, Liston, Williams, Patterson, Chuvalo, Terrel, Folley. Thats way more talent than Rocky faced in his entire 49 bouts and they weren't averaging 37 years of age. These guys alone averaged an age of only 30 years old, which means Ali was facing most of these guys in their prime. The only one I can think of that was not 100% was Williams and he was not old at 33. At only 25 years old remember.

Marciano's best career opposition were Louis, Walcott, Charles and Moore and they averaged 37 years of age. Marciano won the title from a 39 year old Walcott. Ali won his first 2 titles from 32 year old Liston(Liston was declared to be 38 years old when he passed in 1970 which would make him 32 in 64) And from a certain guy called George Foreman, and Ali took it from him when George was 25 and was destroying everyone. Ali was almost 33. When it comes to comparing who fought who there is no comparison here, Marciano's record is padded while Ali defeated true opposition.

Marciano is a good boxer as I said before on another comment but his record is misleading. Never fought true opposition and retired suddenly when Patterson and Liston had hit the scene...

Are you serious? Why do you think he was asked to appear in the TV shows in the first place and how many people have even seen the movie about him? Ridiculous. That's like a really unfitting chicken and egg theory.
