If Rocky Marciano is so overrated, why has nobody else done what he did?

Walcott was an old man who out boxed Marciano in the first fight.

Chalres was an old man and a former middleweight.

    Louis was a relic.

Moore was an old man and a light heavy.

    Overrated is an understatement.

In addition to the above, Marciano only defended his title 6 times - and it wasn't against stellar opposition...

Ali's win over Foreman easily eclipses anything on Marciano's resume...

And in Larry Holmes' case, underrated is an overstatement.

Marciano's opposition>Holmes' opposition (Edit: In actual wins, of course/end edit)

I like how repeatedly people come in on this thread, spew detractor myths and exaggerations, get debunked, then someone else comes in and repeats all the same crap. It's telling.

Marciano retired after only 6 defenses and before he had to fight Patterson and the rest. Baby Joe Mesi retired around 32 and he was undefeated. Does that mean that he was the best ever too?

Yall have no ****in idea what you're talking about. Marciano is easily one of the greatest fighters I've seen on film. He was far more elusive than he gets credit for and he was an excellent counterpuncher. While I agree that Louis, the greatest heavyweight was past it and likely would have beat Rocky in his orime, Charles, Moore, and Walcott were great fighter when Rocky fought them, and among the highest skilled fighters of all time. People say Moore and Walcott were old, but it is commonly known they were late bloomers. And Charles was about the same size as Rocky. Does anybody actually watch film or do they just talk without thinking?

Also as far as Walcott was concerned, he may have been the best skilled fighter of all time. He was the master of exploiting his opponents weaknesses. If he decided to play his fights safe like Mayweather for instance, he may have never lost a fight.

There is a reason why a contemporary great, BHop, says he learned from watching these fighters.

Marciano's over-rated? Didn't know that, seems he's a top ten HW on most accounts. His style made for a short career and he beat bums for about 33 fights but he was learning on the job. He was mentally tougher than probably any HW there ever was, its hard to argue that, he won every time, not all of them easy. He could go to that place in his mind an will victory, for his time he was the best. I doubt he could beat some guys now, they are just too big. But at the time he was the man. No question.

Marciano was the hardest puncher I've ever heard of. I believe he broke 14 opponents jaws.

Anyone who truly believes Marciano was not an elite boxer, one of the best to ever lace em up, has a lack of comprehension regarding the subtleties of the sport.
