who against do you think Tyson s first loss would have been? I think he beats Douglas and Holyfield but would lose to Bowe. No way does a pre 1995 Lewis stand a chance.

I can't say for sure when he'd lose but I have a feeling it still would have been sooner rather than later. Tyson had just as much to do with his own downfall, as anyone who either was or wasn't handling him, and in truth even Rooney had trouble keeping the guy focussed and on track.

He'd have still lost to Douglas IMO at anytime of his career, the man had all the attributes and the perfect game plan to beat Tyson.

Just remember the fight wasn't even competitive at all and this was only his 3rd fight without Rooney, Douglas had his number.

All credit to Douglass, but Tyson was not there mentally in the Douglass
fight. Look at his eyes before the bout, he didn't have that fierce look in his eyes. He looked awful and sloppy against Bruno which I believe was his first fight without Bruno. Possibly the worst corner, with no motivation, and ****
technical advice in the Douglass bout, not to mention a condom filled with
water to bring down the swelling. Cmon. I believe with Rooney Tyson goes
undefeated. The only person I see him possibly losing to is Bowe, However
I believe Tyson could pull out a SD or stoppage. Douglass would trouble him always when in shape, but look what a half dead Mike did. Rooney
aside from calling out the combos, etc, could offer apt technical and strategic advice.

Did his eyes turn a different colour when up for a fight? A bit like the Hulk? :rofl

He didn't look half bad wiping Carl Williams out prior to the Douglas fight, he looked bad against Bruno because Bruno made it a scrappy fight with constant holding and rabbit punching, he had Mike hurt with a single shot which debunks the "MYTH" that he needed to take lots of punishment to be hurt.

No way in hell would Tyson have gone undefeated with Rooney and deep down you know it too. Holyfield was the superior boxer and an all round better fighter full stop.

Its like asking "if Tyson wasnt Tyson"?
Tyson wouldve imploded at some point .
If he'd have come out of the closet instead of over emphasising his masculinity and continuing in denial he may have stayed 'together' longer.

This is a summary of the answer I give to all threads

Fine he gets by Douglas then what?

Its the 90's suddenly there are tougher challenges than their were in the 80's

Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis,Mercer, McCall, Morrison, Ruddock, Foreman, Moorer, Cooper, Botha, Briggs, etc.

How long was he really going to stay motivated focused even with Rooney

How long can an athlete keep contending with such great opposition?

Bowe is the oonly threat out of the fighters you listed. If you didn't know a
slightly faded Tyson beat Ruddock twice. Lewis to green, McCall and Mercer too unskilled, Cooper and Morrison too chinny, Briggs had **** defense and stamina. Moorer too chinny, Foreman is a threat as well.

If Tyson had Rooney and never did a three year bit! Prime for prime Tyson stops Holy. No prison time with Rooney Tyson stops Holy. Holy got hit
too much and didn't have the power to stop Mike. Yes he stopped a post prison untested Mike on his feet in a dirty fight on both sides. Tyson ate 6 headbutts there.

IMO it would have helped but King and the 2 phoneys Tyson had in his corner knew nothing about being a corner-man or trainer. Once Tyson bit the apple that the Rooney was not for him he lost a loyal guy, Rooney was not without faults he was a crazy gambler but for Tyson he was a brother and it kept Tyson remembering Cus and the teachings

He still would have come to a point where he slowed a bit and his reflex based style would have left him high and dry. Something else that hurt him; after he was cut sparring Greg Page and went to full head-gear, he started standing straight up in fights. You fight how you train. I don't know if Rooney would have made a difference.
Keep in mind, Rooney only trained Tyson. Ricky Meyers, the others, didn't do much for them.

Prime for prime Holyfield stops Mike earlier, Holyfield was way faster and threw much more combinations in his prime and Mike couldn't handle being peppered with shots.

Please stop it with the ****ing headbutt excuses, Tyson was the one lunging in head first and he caused his own cut.

I love your romantic stories, it's a bit like Micky and Rocky.

Cus could have been in the ring with Tyson in Tokyo and Tyson would have still been left on the floor searching for his gumshield, the fight was probably the most one sided beating a prime heavyweight champion as ever taken in the history of the sport.

preparation makes a big difference and pre-fight condition maintenance, If Rooney could keep Mike on track Buster would have not made it past the 8th, I have seen Buster fight and the Tyson fight made him look sensational but back to reality vs Evander like he was for Tucker .An in shape & focused Tyson makes a diff IMO

Righhhhhht. Because Mike almost KOed Douglass, while Frazier got annihilated in 2.
Holy stopping Tyson in less than 11. You need to take that comedy on the road.
