Jones is obviously best super middleweight ever. He beat the best, proved himself against the top rated supermiddle weights of the time and was involved in many a classic fight against world class opposition at there natural weights........ oh wait... that's right he had one fight against one big name a supposedly weight drained toney. The rest of the time he fought below parr opposition.

Anyone who thinks benn, G man or maybe even eubank doesn't give him a hard night is a fool. Look at there punching power, look at there durability. It doesn't matter if jones lands three punches for every ones of theirs they all have ko power and that punch could come at anytime. I'm not saying its going to be a walk over for anyone but to completely write theses people off as having no chance is stupid..... Or we can just ignore all the evidence and just pretend jones is super human.

here's a post to the "great" calzaghe.

i'll never forget the night you won the "prestigious" wbo title against a faded eubank.

then defended it against the great branko sobot, one of the greatest super middles ever.

how you defended your title against the best challengers; ferrerya, reid, thornberry, and starie.

i'll always remember how defeated the "deserving" challenger mario veit in one round.

who can ever forget the times you defeated jimenez, tocker pudwill, mitchell (only after he just lost) and the great mger mkrtchian!!

i'll never forget when you defended your title against kabary salem (who had just lost to veit who you beat in one round) and then defeated the great veit again!

then you eventually met a fighter who was just like you, jeff lacy. a fighter who held a title but had beaten absolutely no one. you owned lacy that night. you might has well defeated ray robinson that night. you would have got the same reaction from the "educated" brit fans.

then you really stepped up your game with wins over the contender guys, especially manfredo. you always fought the best.

then maybe your crowning achievement happened when you beat kessler. kessler is such an incredible fighter with wins over so many great fighters like.......hold on i'll think of some in a second.

then your win over hopkins was awesome, unless you had to watch it. next you might be fighting jones and will be favored to win. if you win the fight, who cares that the only two hall of fame fighters you beat were old enough to be in the hall of fame, (bhop-43, rj-2 months short of 40) you are still the best. the brits fans say so.

yes joe, you are right when you say pavlik would have no chance against you. your great record speaks for itself. (i mean who has pavlik beat, taylor? who has taylor beat, hopkins? oh wait, that's your best win, never mind.)

when your career is over i'll think of you in the same breath as hagler, monzon and robinson (and how all of them would have beat the sh!t out of you)

congrats on your great career and for all the great fights! the brits have to be so proud.

Reid - A world class opponent. A win over a top 10 SMW
Starie - a winner over undefeated future IBF LHW champ Woods who would challenge again. A win over a world rated SMW
Sheika - a mandatory tipped for big things who was world rated and had beaten G Johnson and would challenge 3 times again, and recently gave Diaconu a hard fight, yet nobody at SMW got rid of him like Calzaghe. A win over a top 10 SMW
Woodhall - A world class opponent. A win over a top 10 SMW
Veit - A world rated opponent beaten when undefeated and beaten when more seasoned, and remeber Veit has only lost to world champs or fighters who became world champs and has a win over current WBO LHW champ Braehmer. A win over a top 10 SMW
Brewer - A world rated opponent. A win over a top 10 SMW
Mitchell - A world rated opponent. The 2 time WBA SMW champ who was world rated and never beaten clearly. A win over a top 10 SMW
Mkertchyan - A world rated opponent who went on to beat the 26-0 European champ. A win over a world rated SMW who became top 10 rated
Lacy - Undefeated world champ and favourite to win, and who has a better win resume than any active American SMW. A win over a top 10 SMW unification
Bika - A world rated opponent, who has challenged again. A win over a top 10 SMW
Manfredo - rated in The Ring top 10 at time of fight. A win over a top 10 SMW

So out of 22 SMW title fights 14 seem good genuine wins.
Tell me anothet long reigning champ who in so many world title fights didnt have a couple of gimmes. That happens when you have so many title fights, but there would have been a few less if Echoles, Tate and Telesco hadnt of backed out of fights with Calzaghe, not that Telesco was anything great admittedly, but America know who he is.
Consider also that Calzaghe beat all of Americas top SMWs of his era that would face him in Brewer, Manfredo, Sheika, Mitchell and Lacy

bailey, i'll give you credit. you put up a hell of an argument to defend your fighter. i'll also admit that joe was a very, very good fighter. i think he's the third best welsh fighter ever behind jimmy wilde and jim driscoll. but any way you spin it, this opponent list is not good from a historical standpoint. it will be one of the weakest resumes in the hall if joe makes it. the only hofs he faced are hopkins (after 2 losses to taylor) and jones (after ko losses to tarver and johnson). kessler was a good win but hardly hof worthy and the lacy win was big at the time because joe had never really stepped up to that point.

here's an ebay link to a 1999 boxing news issue with jones and calzaghe on the cover. jones was "too good for words" while calzaghe's headline reads "grim and bear it, calzaghe wins and loses" (i believe after his fight vs thornberry). during this time calzaghe would have posed no threat to jones imo and in a lot of other people's opinions as well.

Im not a Chin Checker but will hopefully give some form of answer to you.
Cutting weight can affect a fighter no doubt. Roy Jones came down from HW and didnt look good against Tarver, lost a return by KO and was KOd by Johnson. Then when Roy started to adjust again he went the distance with Tarver and had some good rounds. Roy took a bit of a rest to get his body to adjust again and said before the Calzaghe fight that it had taken years for his body to get back to normal again and adjust.
Then Calzaghe beat Roy when he looked alot better than he had against Tarver and Johnson and with Jones back to full health.
