This is wrong on so many accounts it's laughable. Of course we can't be sure of the outcome, but we definately can make a educated analysis that generally gives us an idea on how the fight would go. Mayweather isn't nearly as fast as Roy, who is arguably the quickest fighter ever. His reflexes are not as good, and if they are he doesn't show them because of his form of defence. Roy's defence was bases solely on footwork and reflexes. He may be better defensively, but to say he's better mentally is laughable and there's no evidence to back it up. More athletic? Have you ever seen a prime Roy Jones fight? Roy by wide decision, with Mayweather probably getting dropped sometime during the fight.
Really can't predict? Yes, we can. No-one can be sure? Yes, we can. You'd have to put the money on Mayweather? Don't. Just as fast? No, he isn't. Reflexes as good? No, they aren't. Better defensively? In career terms yes, but not in this fight. PBF's defensive tactics wouldn't work v a guy with RJJ's style. Mentally? No. RJJ kept his composure on the big stage v Hopkins & Toney, real 50/50 fights against top top quality fighters, and won. PBF has never even been in that mental arena, never fought anyone good enough. More athletic?!?!?!?!!?!?! Sober up! Blasphemy!
Mayweather can punch too, at 135 and 140. I just think that everything that PBF has, Roy has a little bit more of. I also don't think that crossed-arms turtle defense would do PBF any favors when it comes to a decision, which is what I think it would come down to. Also, before Mclellan got beat into a coma, Roy was known to be aggressive and try to knock your ass out, something PBF hasn't done in a long while. imho every time PBF goes into that shell, Roy will step to the side and blast a left hook right in there. It takes footwork and handspeed to open up that defense, and Roy had both of those in spades.
Just because Roy is a little bit better doesn't mean we have to slag off on PBF. He beat Corrales, Castillo, Hatton, DLH and Hernandez and that's a hell of a resume by anyone's standards.
Lol. Not only are you guys trying to find retired fighters who would beat Mayweather now you are trying to hypothesize Mayweather being 6'1 and weighing 170 lbs :rofl Lol. Lol. I got another one. Willie Pep vs Muhammad Ali, if Pep was a heavyweight.
I favor Roy too for all the reasons brought up, but I'm surprized there's no Pretty boy lovers trying to convince us otherwise...
Well he was not starched by 2 average fighters either. You can make all the excuses in the world for Roy but the bottom line is his Chin is garbage he avoided several power punchers in his career for a reason. Mayweather was never knocked cold like Roy was twice.
Floyd got caught by a clean left hook by Oscar while Floyd was bouncing off the ropes. He essentially bounced into the punch, he just laughed it off. He got caught by Judah and Corley and similarly shook off both those punches with ease. Floyd has a chin and a near impenetrable defense. Thats like breaking a rock and finding a diamond inside.
