Let's face it, most of Roy's success was because he was so fast. But what if he just had average speed, and practiced the fundamentals?

He would have been unstoppable. ESB has taught me that fundamentals are, like, 31x as important as talent. He would have been like Harold Johnson with a punch and would have concluded a 50-0 career by beating Lennox Lewis.

If you give him average speed and relied on fundamentals more, he'd be a different fighter altogether.

That's what made him so special; getting away with stupid **** you aren't supposed to get away with because of his speed and reflexes...

I'll say that all these guys at the top level know their fundamentals; it's not like they've never been taught and don't know what to do; it's that they have gifts that allow them to disregard things like fundamentals.

Even a guy like Foreman or Graziano I imagine had much better fundamentals than your average guy and could do some stuff you'd be impressed by; they just didn't need to because they found their power. They found a way that worked better for them.

Same with Ali and Jones and Hamed and many others... They all found their niche. With some, they fall in love with their gifts and forget about what they can fall back on... Some do better than others once the gift starts to fade.

No but seriously, if Roy didn't have his speed, he wouldn't have been NEARLY as successful.

You act like Roy was some power deficient Cory Spinks/Malinaggi
guy. Without speed he still had other options.

Let's take away Floyd's speed and reflexes. He's an average fighter.

How about Ray Leonard? Hearns? Ray Robinson? Ali? Let's take their speed away and see how great they are.

    :deal

Take away Tyson, Foreman, liston's power and they are average.

Take away Floyd, Ali, RJJ, pea's speed and they are average

Take away wlad, vitali, lennox height and they are middle of the road

Take away lamottas chin and he gets KO'd....

That's not how it works. Fighters are shaped (when well trained) and evolve according to their best traits and and their weaknesses.

Roy without speed would become a completely different fighter altogether. He would need to rely more in his punching power and his good strategical mind and would need to be trained accordingly and would evolve accordingly.

How good he would be and even what kind of fighter he would become is impossible to tell.

Surely you exagerate? I am fairly certain it is 28.6315 X's more important! In the future you don't need to go over the top to make your point!

    keep up the good work!

Ok maybe 31x was a few standard deviations off. But I agree with you. Truth!

Then he would have been wearing Apollo Creed trunks and fighting in bars and nightclubs.
