    Not surprised.

Marciano would have been a nobody in the 70's, IMHO.

Roy was an awesome fighter, one of the best IMO. I took no pleasure in watching his career fall apart. It gutted me every time he lost. There is a lesson there for all fighters of all levels.

The weight loss was exaggerated for reasons explained, and you yourself confirmed. It was not the "25 lbs of muscle" reported. Jones himself said he was "180 lbs against Hopkins as a Middleweight."

I don't find your analogies fair for reasons already stated.

Jones lost a step and he ran into a bad match up. That's my take. Two old guys fought, one was craftier. No Excuses.

A lot of people thought that Jones had a very good chin before the Tarver fight.

For that reason alone, he would have been seen as being far more credible against men like Dempsey, if he had quit while he was still ahead.

A fair bit of backpedaling went on after his loss to Tarver.

To be fair prime Roy was rarely hit, and even more seldom flush. He was that good. Roy was able to hide his weakness very good in his prime years.
