Thompson's plan was to let Haye whale away on his head for every second of every round iirc?

 

Haven't read that article, but would anyone say Ruiz is as durable now at the weight as Thompson was then at the weight?

Because I seem to recall Thompson's plan more or less being 'get battered until Haye is puffed out'

Could Ruiz endure a beating until the later rounds? I reckon the answer is no. He's out of there around the same time Barrett was in my opinion.

 

inexperience beat haye that night and since then he has gained plenty of experience so obviously isnt inexperienced anymore and wont maake the same mistake if you know wat i mean(kinda struggled to express myself there )

 

Yep, that was a very young and inexperienced Haye in there with Thompson. He was none too dedicated to his training around that time either apparently.

 

Spent almost as much time clubbing as he did training around that time wasn't it?

Ruiz is being oversold here. Thompson literally walked through hell to win. Ruiz stunned Jones, ate some speed and took his foot off the gas. Ruizs footwork is so bad that he can't keep going after guys, he has this terrible rocking habit.

Haven't watched him properly in a while so a new guy could show up.

 

No way Haye fights the way he did against Thompson. He's acting like he's a genius. Fact is his game plan (whatever it was) failed and was getting raped until Haye gassed out.

 

aww the Haye huggers are in uproar cos the old cat gave himself a bit of credit for beating Haye

Facts are, thompson was spot-on, he was getting a going-over but he was always hanging in there, landing his own shots, Haye might have 'gassed out' but thats cos Carl took his best shots, & was always coming back with his own.

Lets give 'ol Carl some credit here, instead of bitching cos the darling of brit ESB got an L on his record!

Haye learned from that fight & has went onto have a fine career, so I dont see what all the bitterness is about.

PS, I forgot how great this fight was until I just rewatched it for the first time since it origanally happened, a modern day classic if ever there was one:deal

 

carl deserves credit for it.He beat haye something he should be proud of.Also it might have been the best thing to happen to haye
