If Ruiz was 25 pounds lighter would the fight be different?

maybe....but unless we get a 3rd fight we might never know. Just as important imo was the 22 foot ring, combined with his conditioning. Joshua was smart, patient and just effective enough to score and avoid any real danger. I am not sure why he thought the 283 lbs was a good idea.

he would have at least given himself the chance to cut off the ring

Joshua still would have been the better boxer but he would at least felt a bit more danger.

What I noticed most as well was the ring. It was way too big and you would need a master ring cutter to make a difference. I dont think 30 pounds less would make a difference though Joshua just has too much reach and power

Ready for a title shot in 2020. A super heavy with an A plus chin, skills and very good power.

Needs some work on defense due to his aggressive nature.

Without the massive gut it would have been more competitive, that's obvious. Irrelevant now though.

No. Parker handled him at the lower weight. You get the same result.

Ruiz was 255 against Parker and still lost. He's just not good at closing taller fighters down.

I agree about the D! He needs just. Little bit more polish, but he has largely shown glimpses of what he will evolve into.

if I was bringing him along I would wait till 21 or very late 20. I still think he would be best served by a Rivas Ortiz Muniz Parker type of fight before a title shot, but that’s just me. Either way I am pretty sure we will see it in the next year or 2 either way.

AJ fought the predictable fight and Ruiz was unable to counteract it because he came in completely out of shape.

AJ proved a lot of people wrong by being able to stick to a game plan like that.

Whether Ruiz would have had a better chance had he taken the rematch more seriously is something we will never know.

Confidence is one thing, but he also needed to train, this is not a street fight that you had as a kid, where you beat up the guy you fought and can beat him up again, this is a boxing match, 3 minute rounds. Your opponent has had time to do roadwork, spar, and look at the film of the first fight to make adjustments, yes being mentally ready is important, but living off your laurels is not very smart. He should have been in better shape, and cut off the ring on Joshua, but Anthony won fair and square, congratulations.

So gaining close to 30 pounds would not make a difference ?

YOu idiots have never boxed.....the extra bulk will sap your stamina and your feet are stuck in cement..........I would not be surprised if Ruiz did not train at all and just did some promo vids to proof he "trained".

AJ boxed off the back foot and jabbed in the first too...except Ruiz took the jab away moving in while way quicker on his feet and made AJ fight three minutes a round.............only a idiot would believe that AJ's on his mega bike would not affect 300 pounds of lard...........grossly out of shape aint catching a running rabbit.

I said from day one , this is Ruiz's fight to loose not AJ;s to win but if you are mailing it in chomping down Burritos followed by Coronas your goose is cooked.

Fat midfat, didn't matter. It was about catching AJ with shots to the dome, behind the ears...he does that he wins no matter the weight. Without those shots AJ is chin-enuff to grab until he recovers.

AJ boxed the fight to win. Losing 20lb he may have been a bit quicker and got AJ into the ropes as AJ looked lost in close and could only clinch AR was beating him out of the clinch most time and beating him in close.
Who knows, ARjr had his chance

    Maybe.

However, Ruiz had SIX months to lose that weight and still didnt even bother.

The "If it aint broke, dont fix it" mentality can becoming counter productive sometimes.
