If Shannon Briggs was such a power puncher then why couldn't he rule the heavyweight division

Briggs should have been the Liston of the 90s. Lewis should have been his Zora Folley

Same with Cyclone Hart and Jeff Sims and hundreds of others. I reckon at this point you'd have an idea.

This scenario gets answered almost on a weekly basis in here and is, at this point, ESB folklore. It's a rhetorical answer that gets trotted out all the time.

Briggs was always kind of a non-entity. He had a really good punch and heart but 47 year old Foreman beat him and Lewis made him look even worse.

    Comparing him to Liston...come on.

IF all a fighter needed was power, Earnie Shavers would be the greatest heavyweight of all-time.

He claimed to have "asthma," when in fact he just trained like a weightlifter instead of a boxer, and got commensurate results.

I remember the HBO telecast for the Shannon Briggs-Darroll Wilson fight, and it was mentioned by Wilson in the post-fight interview that Briggs had slow feet. Also, one of the commentators mentioned his lack of head movement. I think both were true, and both were issues throughout his career.

Interesting that the smallish, not particularly big-punching Wilson did a faster job on Briggs than Lewis, V. Klitschko, or anybody else was able to.

First Briggs fight I ever saw was the one against Felix Savon. He was barely 200 pounds at the time, and just didn't come across as very durable in that fight. Never would have guessed that a 262 pound Briggs would be in there eating over 300 punches from a Vitali Klitschko, and finishing on his feet.

Fast hands, heavy fists, slow feet, bad training. He'd get into the ring and brawl if he couldn't knock you out, and he had a habit to throw hooks instead of the great straight shots he had. Great heart, but never got the proper coach that he likely should've had.

It's still just not that complicated. If Amir Khan were ACTUALLY fast, why wouldn't he be like SRR?
