I used to like Porter, but the man is two-faced. He's been clamoring for years that he's Team Pac this, Team Pac that, but then Showtime cameras showed him rooting for Broner during the fight. He and Thurman have had very public arguments and he's picking Pac to win, but no doubt he will be rooting for Thurman.
He's not a bum. He's a very likable guy. He just lack technique and can be very sloppy and wild in his fights. He's not elite level, but he's a top guy at WW.
He's not a bum but he's a step below the very best and it's clear. His style is also ugly to watch. You'd think with as much as he throws he'd be good to watch but he's deceptively defensive. He knows that by smothering himself he also makes it hard for his opponent to land on him. He's not really trying land precise punches, just hoping some of his stuff land.
1) heck of a straw man. I've never seen anyone call him a bum. 2) Porter can and will fight anyone, and those fights get made precisely because he's viewed as more beatable than the best of the best. That's just how boxing goes. There reaches a point where a fighter is too good for what they bring to the table financially, and getting big fights becomes very tough. Porter isn't that guy.
Other than a few trolls, no one considers nor have I heard anyone call Porter a bum. He's a very rough, sloppy, unorthodox fighter with quite a few flaws. A bum, no. He's a two time titlist with one of the best resumes in the division. He completely lost to Thurman though, competitive fight yes, but lost decisively.
You beat me to it! I doubt any serious fan or poster would call Porter a bum. He literally causes A level opponents to bring their A game every round of every fight. If they don't they will be outworked and lose.
That's the first step to redemption. God will have mercy on your soul so as long as you continue to stay on the straight and narrow. Welcome brother.
hes world clss and title class, just a transient titlist. he gets it, then loses it. in with the lacys, lemieuxs, bikas of the world.
He's a bum with an extraordinary high, very very high workrate. And thanks to that he's no bum. What you dont have because of talent, you can have it because of working. I'm no porter's fan, but he's a really hard worker. Hence, respect.
I feel the same way about Porter that I do about Huck. It's more caveman than sweet science, but I respect that it's not easy to fight world level fighters that way with as much success as they've had.
It's pretty simple really he fought and beat Broner and fought and lost to Thurman he is going to root for them because it makes him look better. Alot of boxers do that, it's nothing new.
