If Shea Neary had beat Micky Ward - How far would he have gone? He just seemed to give up after a controversial defeat to Magee. He owns or owned a gym in Liverpool and last year done a charity fight against a local newspaper reporter. I see he's featured in The Fighter (Micky Ward bio) but as it's not out in the UK until Feb I don't know how much Neary features in it. Just curious to see how far people think he could have gone
The reality is that Neary just wasnt that good. He was 22-0 when he fought Micky but he was just too inexperienced and flawed derensively. He was a tough B level fighter and he had the WBU title, but i dont think he was seen a a threat to the Tszyus and Judahs of the division.
Neary was a very good fighter but would of never reached the top imo. Ward was basically a very skilled gate keeper/contender and there was a lot more better fighter than him to beat at the weight. Him vs Ward is always a great watch though might re watch it this week
