GSP was never a pure striker.

I know that GSP started with Kyokushin but he always used groundfighting to his advantage in MMA even in his first fight.

Josh koschek also holds many of his wins by ko but he is not a very good striker at all obviously gsp is much better than him. I do agree that GSP has good striking ability, but it is not the best even at ww IMO but he uses the threat of a takedown to limit his opponents striking options. when GSP fought thiago Alves, when Alves threw a lowkick, his kick was caught and was taken down by gsp repeatedly lesson: dont throw lowkicks. when a opponent comes forward and tries to be aggressive they get taken down for their efforts thats what gsp does standing.

st peirre has had his back on the canvas in: the third Hughes fight the Thiago Alves fight both Koscheck fights and the fitch fight. He hasnt shown that he can be dangerous from his back but thats because his objective was to get out of that position and not take damage and he has proven to be very good at it even from his back.

have you seen bj penn submitt anyone from his back in mma? Thats my point, BJ penn if he is taken down (which is not easy thing to do) is very defence orientated off of his back. he waits for sweeps and defends guard passes but really allows his opponent to rack up points if they have good top control. Fitch will do this to him wait and see.

Never said GSP was a one dimensional wrestler.

I only separated those skillsets for others to see that GSP is not as good at certain dicipines as Silva or shogun, but with a solid gameplan and utilizing the skills that he does have which are many and at a high level, he is always in control of the fight.

Is it well roundedness to use the skills you have to take others out of their comfort zone? That to me is game planning.

I think GSP transitions from striking to wrestling better than anyone, but is that wellroundedness?

I dont think Gsp will walk through Silvas strikes the way Sonnen did. Thats not how gsp fights, if gsp gets hit by a big middleweight like andy it could spell big trouble for GSP.
