If someone gets underrated so much they can eventually become overrated, because people go from one extreme to another when judging their credentials, give examples.

    Zab Judah

 I felt that Pwill has the talent to back up his slight overratedness. i think clottey is a better example.

All this underrating overrating stuff is a bit dull. It is very difficult to think of someone who is universally rated one way or the other, most people are underrated by some, overrated by others.

JOSHUA CLOTTEY is definitely the best answer to this rather vague and complicated question that I can think of though.

This slow, basic plodder was beaten by Margarito and outpointed by Miguel Cyclops, but now he is being spoken of as an African Marvin Hagler. I think he's mediocre. Shane Mosley would poleaxe him.

It's an interesting question... underrated generally involves lack of exposure, but these guys have to have been seen enough that a whole lot of people believe they are underrated.

Clottey is a great example. I know because I was guilty.

I think Paulie will qualify after the Diaz rematch.

It absolutely happens. I hate to use him as an example, but Glen Johnson fits that to a T.

I've noticed it especially since "underrated" and "overrated" are now often used as a sign of quality of the fighter instead of something that fans do. Those terms apply to ratings, which happen outside of the fighter's control, but yet if someone posts something like "Floyd is overrated", you'll have a shitload of people arguing differently. In reality, those terms are a measure of the fan, not the fighter. Floyd's a hell of a fighter, but if someone said he was undeniably the best the sport's ever seen, that's still overrating him.
