If he dominates he has a chance to sniff the top ten. I put him outside the top ten because Valdez should have lost his last fight. He did beat Berchelt legitimately although he pissed hot afterwards I believe. I know he tested positive as recently as September for some kind of stimulant. Maybe had trouble making weight so he took speed of some kind. Either way, I like Stevenson a lot and expect him to be on the PFP list very soon if not after this fight. Good young fighter possible star at LW someday. I like that he’s game and doesn’t seem to be ducking anyone. Guys at his stage of the game need to take note. Stevenson is the real deal and will be making noise at LW soon. I’d like to see him fight Tank or Ryan Garcia sometime. Lots of exciting talent coming to an exciting weight. Looking forward to seeing some great fights soon.
I stated on Facebook years ago that I believe Stevenson might be the best fighter America has had come out of the Olympics in a long time, but the idea of him being a two-division "champion" in the pros is nonsense. He's a two-class titlist. His first was a vacant "Welcome Home" treat against an unranked but still good Joet Gonzalez. His next was Herring, who on the other hand was a highly-ranked boxer and a guy that has improved since his losses. But I also think he benefitted from Top Rank's matchmaking and appeared better than what he was. Herring is nothing like a genuine elite. I don't see Valdez as a near-p4p guy either, as he's had a number of tight fights with fringe guys and his shining performance was a weight-drained Berchelt (I rarely use that as an excuse). Given that, Valdez is probably the #2 guy in the class and this fight will represent a Linear Championship bout, which is significant. If Stevenson wins handily, he will be in the orbit of the top-10, but not quite there. That is unless there are significant changes soon, like Golovkin or Spence or someone else loses.
I wish that would be true however Valdez has been bumped out of the rankings by both the Ring and TRBB rankings. Si this will NOT be for the championship.
its not that long ago he was fighting at 126, and fought at 123lbs in the Olympics where they weigh in every day. Hes not THAT big.
I've seen Stevenson twice in person and stood within 10 feet of him he's tiny and looks like a teenage boy.
Not too long ago people were considering having him in the Top 10 P4P list after he beat Berchelt. If Stevenson beats Valdez then there's no doubt that he'd be on the P4P list as well.
Josh Taylor’s performance against Catteral proves that this idiotic weight bully argument was just that: an idiotic argument. If Stevenson is cutting too much weight, It’ll catch up to him eventually. Regarding the question of the thread, talent-wise Stevenson is up there(and is probably the most talented fighter below the age 25),but back to back wins over Herring and Valdez are far from enough for a p4p top10 spot.
I'm on the TBRB rankings board. If I have my information correct, Valdez is removed for a period of six months, meaning he should be reinstated by the time it rolls around.
Are you? That s awesome! Ok,but on which slot does Valdez come back in?And then I would have to ask…..given it s a 6 month “ban” after whoch he comes back…..what is the point of it?
Stevenson will be Top 10 (Maybe Top 5) P4P for sure. Stevenson will school Valdez 12-0 or bust him up to a cuts stoppage - as Valdez marks up & bruises easy.
ValPEDs coming off a gift robbery decision where he got his head boxed off. Stevenson win won't mean much.
