I think Sergio's left would of put many of today's 168lbers on their back, but none have the iron chin Hagler had. Put Adameks cheen, Bute's left, AA's toughness, and Johnson's experience and you had Hagler. Prime Hagler would of done to Sergio today what Margarito did 10yrs ago.
Come on. There is too much over reacting to Martinez KO punch. That punch was excellent but was assisted by Williams bad technique (tilting his head sideways and putting his weight towards the fist). That punch would MAYBE stun Hagler, at best. And that is a big MAYBE. He hit Williams several times with the same punch and Williams barely moved. It was not until PWill's bad technique finally helped Martinez. Suddenly Martinez is an ATG power puncher :/
Yeah I dont think it would have knocked him down. He not only has a better chin and is a natural middleweight but he also is a a lot more skilled than PW so he will have his chin tucked and not be in as bad as a position as PW was to get his head rocked around like a bobble head. Plus physically his neck is thicker and shorter than PW so that has to help too. Martinez aint a big puncher. That was just a huge shot than PW didnt see coming. Hagler has been in with better punchers and more skilled fighters than martinez. Never mind hearns, is there any reason to think martinez punches harder than srl?
Welllll, if it was the same conditions, it would have definitely hurt Hagler because he wouldn't have seen the punch coming....... However it was a rookie Haymaker because Williams made a rookie mistake. How often do you see a guy get to put in that much leverage into a punch? Almost never! If Williams didn't step in so close, chin up, hands down; Martinez wouldn't have been able to step forward so much and put so much body weight into the punch. Not a likely position Martinez will find himself in against Hagler.
a prime Hag absolutely! It probably would have stunned him for a split sec before he got back on his grind....but style wise sergio would be a problem. I think Hag wins but early Sergio would have some success.
When Martinez threw the shot that took Williams out his head was way out past his feet, his face was pointed directly at the canvass, and his eyes were closed. It's a hell of a knock on Paul, but not many world class middleweights would have got hit by that shot. Lots of guys, including Haglar, would have punished Martinez for that sort of sloppiness.
Hit that hard, at that angle, throwing a shot himself, EXACTLY like that.....*ANYBODY* within 15 pds of Martinez would have been KTFO! Paul Williams does have a great chin, and has taken good punches, and rarely ever been hurt. The only one to put him down that I'm aware of is Martinez. So you can't say Paul doesn't have a hell of a chin. He got knocked out COLD with that shot...Great chin, and all. Plus, about Martinez you gotta think he knocked out Cintron, and Cintron said "Nobody hits that hard" even suffering two KOs from Margarito in which he might have used illegal hand wrap! Martinez hits harder than Margaritos possible bricks. Martinez beat up Pavlik who outweighed him by 15+ pds. Martinez knocked down PW in there first fight, and KHTFO in the 2nd fight. The guy obviously got some damn power, and more so he has SPEED! Much like Pac it's the punches you don't see coming. Give the guy some credit people...If he hit anybody EXACTLY like that within a couple weight divisions of himself they'd have KTFO as well! He shouldn't catch anybody EXACTLY like that unless there sloppy like Paul, but fact is if he did they'd be done.
Dumbass question! The uppercut Hearns nailed Hagler with was a far bigger punch, and Hagler walked through it. Wow that punch is starting to become overrated. Theres NO single shot in middleweight history thats gonna KO Hagler.
Martinez takes anyone out with that punch, including Wlad Klitschko, horses, mules, and even a prime Mike Tyson. Hagler has no chance.
