If that happens... Then full credit to Wilder... It would be the first step in him earning legitimacy. But you're right - the usual suspects would spin it as Wilder being completely absolved of the last 2-3 years of his career and the criticism he received in that time unwarranted.

Despite the hate for Wilder on this forum (and some of it may be legitimate), it's also important to note that Luis Ortiz isn't exactly a superbly accomplished heavyweight himself. If we're going to pick apart Wilder's resume (which, again, is fair to do), then we need to also look at Ortiz's resume and notice that there's not a signature win there that should automatically put him on a higher echelon than Wilder. His best wins are probably Lateef Kayode and Bryant Jennings, who I wouldn't put leaps and bounds above the likes of Bermane Stiverne and Gerald Washington. It's a pick 'em fight if it happens. Both have solid power. Ortiz might have the slight edge due to his slick counters and overall boxing skills, but it's not like it's a David vs. Goliath match up here.

If Ortiz' chin can hold up then I like his chances to win on points..

I can see Wilder getting caught. Ortiz by KO for me.

    Wilder 4/6
    Ortiz 6/5

Current odds on betfair. I don't have a lot of confidence in this one actually coming to fruition (then again it is super 2017 - the year of the fight fan!) but would like the opportunity to bet Ortiz as a dog here. I see this as close to a 50/50 but give the edge to the cuban going by the eye test although I suspect Wilder isn't quite as uncoordinated as he appears. Fingers crossed it happens though as poor Ortiz has been waiting forever for his shot and Wilder is long overdue a step up in competition.

    I think so too

Ortiz is a tank with explosive cannon firepower. If Ortiz can get inside and Chase Wilder into a corner, he will rock Wilder to the core and knock this overrated " title holder" OUT

Can't believe I'm agreeing with nay sayer above but if Ortiz' chin is any where near as good as Duhaupas' or Stiverne's, he wins this fight.

I found an article that said this fight is looking likely as Stiverne is negotiating for his step aside money in order for this flight to happen on November 4

it's looking promising, but since it's wilder facing a good opponent but I'll believe it when I see it

Ortiz has also been out the ring for almost a year, which isn't good for a fighter his age. If Ortiz was active I'd say 50/50, but with his inactivity I'd have to side with Wilder.

I really think Ortiz is going to knock out Wilder. I will be shocked if Wilder takes this fight. Ortiz is the hardest hitting heavyweight right now and Wilder cannot take a punch. I was really hoping Ortiz would expose Joshua instead. I like Wilder but I think Ortiz will break him down. Joshua may avoid fighting Ortiz all together.
