Hearns is forever tainted by his two big losses. But if he had got the deserved decision against Ray would he be seen in the same light as Ray Leonard and Hagler? I mean he beat Duran in 2. People forget the other elite fighters he defeated and of course being the first 4 weight champ. When he beat Virgil Hill it would have been the right moment to retire - his record was I think just 3 losses going into that fight. Shame the draw was given against Ray because it made a big difference to the History books My favorite fighter:good
that fight doesnt really mean much cause both fighters were past theyre best, but still Hearns shouldve got the decision.
Nope, getting the nod over Leonard on the "Seniors Tour" wouldn't elevate him into the top 2 of those four guys IMHO.
If he got the win then I think he would be elevated a bit simply because both men were I believe roughly 32 years old. They were no longer in their primes but neither man was that far past it. I dont think it would elevate him past Leonard or Hagler but would put him at least closer to them
At the time of the fight Hearns had been a top class pro for 10+ years and Leonard had been a part time fighter for the last 7 years, both were fighting at 20 lbs over what they weighed in their /early mid 20's. Watch the first fight and then watch the second fight, theres a massive difference.
It wouldn't have changed his or Ray's historical standing that much. The first fight meant a lot more due to the "peak" factor. It would help Hearns's standing maybe a slight bit, but not much. Mosley-DLH 2 is similar, but to a lesser extent in terms of decline.
