If the ref had stopped Pac Marquez I after the 3rd knockdown?

Imagine the boxing landscape had the ref stopped the fight? As many fans know Pacquiao knocked Marquez down 3 times in the first round of their first fight and then Marquez battled back on the scorecards to earn a draw. Wow. Marquez was flat on his back, obviously hurt and plenty of refs would have stopped the fight at that point. Lots of things change in boxing history if the ref waves it off. It's unlikely we ever get a rematch.

-Pacquiao is probably considered the GOAT at 126 pounds H2H. Pacquiao punched a lot harder at 126 than he did at 130 and higher. 126 pound Pacquiao probably ascends to mystical status with his destruction of Barrera and KO of Marquez in round 1.

-Marquez becomes a footnote in boxing history and buried as an obscure talented counter-puncher.

-Maybe Pacquiao delays the Morales fight and tries to become undisputed at 126 pounds.

I've got so many thoughts about this.

JMM would still be as great as he is today. That was a big fight in 2004.

I tell my friend this all the time. Without Pacquiao Marquez might barely make the top 5 mexican boxers of all time instead of being regarded as the 2nd by everyone. He is good but got lucky in having the perfect style for Pacquiao.

I thought Marquez was 3-0-1 vs Pacquiao in my opinion.

But yes had the fight been stopped in the 1st round no one would've argued, I also wonder if there would of been a rematch at some point ? Despite the dominant win for Pacquiao.

That draw was BS just like the Agapito fight for Pacquiao, their first fight wasn't even close to a draw & it's what people hung onto for so long because of their problem with Pacquiao dominating so much it's funny, now their second fight would have been fine being the last as Marquez really got beaten up in that one.

Oh yeah & i bet Pacquiao wouldn't have mind giving Marquez the rematch or two going by his character he never cared it's why Marquez after failing three times finally got that final punch in & never gave Pac even one chance at a run again even while Pacquiao was over generous to a whiner.

Marquez is/was a sulky, moody man. Different personalities. Makes the world go around.

"Pacquiao dominating so much" what fight did you watch my guy ? outside of Marquez having a bad start in the 1st round, Marquez took over the fight after the 2nd round.

Marquez out landed Pacquiao by 148 to 138 punches, and out landed him 120 to 100 in power punches that's not domination......

Lets see your scorecard because there's no way Marquez did any worse than win 6 rounds.

Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao 1

    1 Pacquiao 10-6 3 knockdowns
    2 Pacquiao
    3 Marquez
    4 Marquez
    5 Marquez
    6 Marquez
    7 Pacquiao
    8 Marquez
    9 Marquez
    10 Pacquiao
    11 Marquez
    12 Marquez

    113-112 Marquez

Clementz scored the 1st round 10-7 which is as stupid as it gets. With that point, it was PAC 2-1.
Fans in boxrec average 114-112 for PAC.

Yes i'm aware of that and i have no problem with anyone thinking Pacquiao won a close decision even if i had Marquez edging it, my issue is the poster i quoted is saying Pacquiao dominated Marquez and that's an absolutely ridiculous statement.
