Say Medhzidov, Hrgovic, Dychko, Pfeifer, Omarov, Nistor.. all turn pro.. will Joshua be talked about much less?

I do think one of the reasons Joshua has been overhyped is because after London 2012 HE WAS THE ONLY TOP AMATEUR SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT THAT TURNED PRO AFTER RIO:deal all the rest stayed amateur, Not seen anyone else mention that on here :deal

Wlad and Povetkin weren't. Why would Joshua be forgotten if he continues his progress? But gotta admit, those names would be incredible addition to pro ranks :nod

I don't think so, AJ should be in title contention in the next few years if all goes well. The only reason they will start talking about the newer guys is if AJ loses or starts having problems.

What answer are you looking for, exactly?

Do you want someone to say, yes, if a bunch of guys from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Croatia turn pro, I'm sure EVERYONE will just forget Anthony Joshua. :patsch

Because there's one thing that the Brits and the U.S. and Mexico and Germany and the whole boxing world love is
    "Azerbaijan Heavyweights."

Their posters are all over our walls. We dream about them at night. We name our kids Magomedrasul. And everyone's basic cable subscription the world over includes the Kazak sports channel.

Hell, Rakhim Chakhkiev can't even walk down the streets in the U.S. without girls losing their panties. Usyk is a household name from Seattle to Miami.

Um .... that's not how it works.

Most sports fans don't remember who won what in which Olympics, if they remember them at all.

It's not just about winning a medal. It's what you do after that.

Anthony Joshua won the Gold Medal at home. He wouldn't have been as big of a story if he won it in China. It was a big story in England because the Olympics were taking place there and a local kid won the big prize. Since then, he's gotten great press, he's a ferocious puncher, fans love to watch his fights, the women like the way he looks, he comes off as very friendly ...

And he didn't make anyone forget Povetkin, who has proven himself as a pro, too.

A lot of people win gold medals. That's the launch. If you crash and burn after that, like Odlanier Solis has, it doesn't really matter that you won a medal or not.

So, the answer is no. Nobody's going to forget Anthony Joshua if some other guys win a medal. They'll forget Anthony Joshua if Anthony Joshua fails as a pro.

Klitschkos from the Ukraine have dominated the heavyweight division for over a decade and are very famous worldwide:deal

Golovkin from Kazakhstan is becoming a PPV household name... he is becoming the face of the sport :deal

USA promoters have been signing a lot of eastern european fighters in recent years :deal

Usyk Isn't a known name no, but he should be :deal, and if he does what i expect him to do.. he will be :deal

Medzhidov is actually originally from Russia but anyway if you think Joshua is a ferocious puncher wait till you see Medzhidov I'm sure every non biased boxing fan will be interested in Medzhidovs rise through the pro ranks :deal

Wlad Klitschko has been a pro for nearly 20 years and has been on top nearly that long ... and his girlfriend/wife is more well known and recognized than he is globally.

Golovkin has been a pro for a decade, just had his FIRST PPV, and it TANKED. (Wlad's NEVER had a U.S. PPV ... 20 years on.)

So, if your question or argument is, IN 10 OR 20 YEARS, will Medzhidov make people forget Joshua.

The answer is ... the same. People will forget Anthony Joshua if Anthony Joshua fails as a pro.:good

You're right about the reason he is receiving so much attention (though it also has to be said he looks damn good so far in the pros, too) but CST80 is right. He at this point has a very large head start building up his name.

Joshua would still be relevant, he wasn't a bad amateur at all.

Also, NO ONE of those ams will turn pro, for reason only themself know, and probably not even them.
