In the slim chance that the WBC do the right thing and play by the rules and say no to any 155 demands....................

What weight willl Canelo come in at on weigh in day? Im guessing 160.

    For sure.
He will then rehydrate to 180 and have an unofficial 10lb weight advantage.
He'd be a fool to boil down.

And let's hope for his health that he doesnt make any stupid decisions like Cotto did vs Canelo.
Boiling down unnecessarily, just to prove you can still do it, gives you LESS energy and less punch resistance along with less endurance.

Be smart of his to ask for 158, and 75%. Fight would likely be signed within minutes. :good

He'd come in at the full 160.

More realistically, he'll budge off of 155 and GGG would give a couple of pounds to get the fight made.

The rest of what you hear is simply noise to keep it fresh in fans' minds. I'm sure we'll see plenty more in the meantime from each respective camp demanding 155 or 160. The bottom line is the fight will get made.

Isnt the split for a mandatory putse bid
Already 75/25 or is it 70/30? Seems like Canelo might have to give up some points the buy a few pounds

Since GGG is the Interim Champ, it initially starts at 55/45, but the board of director can (and in this case, would IMO) vote it to one of the lower tiers. Here's the breakdown:

"... the Board of Governors may, in its discretion and by a majority vote, modify the division of purse offer proceeds between boxers in a purse offer in unusual or special cases, like the consideration of the outstanding marketing value of one of the boxers. The modification of the split will be limited to three categories: 70-30%; 60-40%; and 55-45% for the Champion and challenger, respectively, except in the most exceptional circumstances, in which the split may be modified to 50-50%.

    Wow..thanks.

So the most Canelo can expect in a purse bid would be 70%? Then he would have to give up percentage points if he wanted to buy it down a few pounds correct?

    Correct. :thumbsup

There's a couple other variables to keep in mind: Canelo can afford to cut breaks on the U.S. split (he only took 25% of the guaranteed purse vs Cotto, for example) because he has an exclusive contract for Mexican TV which gets renegotiated every few fights (with Televiso and TV Azteca in a bidding war for him). We don't have access to the figures, but it's significant since he draws huge ratings there- 19 million for Kirkland, 23 or so for Cotto, etc. Khan is the last fight under the current contract, so he'd be re-upping right in time for Golovkin.

The second is that GGG has no option for a payday near as big as Canelo, so that means there's a chance he'd take the 30% and still give a pound, perhaps two, without wanting more of the purse. I doubt think we'd see him drop under 157 under any circumstances, but that would certainly cost more. 65-35 at 158 is the kind of range I'm expecting. Just my 2 cents on it.

After reading this i think if Canelo gets anything less than 70-30 he might drop the belt. My view is GBP and Alverez himself know this is a fight they lose. If they cant cash out on it big time its just not worth it.
