You would have to think that Lennox doesn't show up overweight again and is completely focused the second time around knowing exactly what he'd be dealing with, but by the time the rematch happens, Lennox would be 38 years old.

Vitali on the other hand will be in his prime and will have plenty of time to prepare instead of taking the fight on short notice.

Does Lennox have one last leave no doubt performance in him before he rides off into the sunset or will the young Vitali put the aging legend into retirement for good with a dominating win?

    Who you got?

Ok seriously, I would say Lewis wins for the reasons mentioned. Being a proud champ, I think LL would whip himself into the best shape possible at nearly 40, and would be much sharper.

Vitali was about as good as he ever was in that fight, I don't think we'd see anything too different from him if they fought again.

Steward wanted Lewis to rematch Klitschko or retire.
    Rematch would favour Klitschko.

At the time being a huge Lewis fan I would of said Lewis, but now with time having passed and having long thought about this rematch that never happened, I think Lewis retired for a reason. He mentally did not have what it took anymore to push himself through the type of camp needed to perform at the level required to handle Vitali a second time. Physically I still think Lewis could of won the rematch but he'd had a long career by then and lets be honest only hung around for a big easy payday against Tyson again he wasn't really wanting to box beyond that and hadn't anticipated that there would be anyone that could force him to fight out of first or second gear until that fight with Vitali.

So my answer now is Vitali. Had Lewis still had the desire then yes he could of won a rematch, likely opening up those cuts again, much like Sanders did when he fought Vitali, but Lewis mentally wasn't hungry or focused enough anymore to beat a hungry lion like Vitali.

I'd be rooting for Vitali, but am I supposed to believe that a better prepared Lewis, who beat Vitali the first time because he was literally ripping his face open repeatedly, wouldn't do a similar job in a rematch?

Idk... does Citali become cut proof in the rematch?

I guess I could back Vitali more in a rematch if it was one fluke cut, but it wasn't.

    Idk.

It was a changing of the guard kind of fight. Lewis got out of jail by ripping his glove over Vitali’s eye to open up a massive cut. All is fair in war, and its credit to Lewis he found a way to win despite the fight not going his way.

In a rematch you would fancy Vitali to win. Lewis wasn’t motivated any more as shown by the retirement and subsequent comments in interviews. Vitali was super motivated and super confident at this point in his career.

Vitali was coming for Lewis’ head in that rematch. He was zoned in on Lennox. Lol! He mentioned him and called him out to run it back literally for years.

Lewis felt how strong Vitali was and also knew how good a boxer he was up against. He knew it was VERY risky for his legacy and possibly adding another L to his record.

Vitali finishes Lewis this time with a well timed 1-2 with all the frustration built up from the 1st fight getting stopped. I say probably around the 5th round. Lewis gets up… but Vitali goes in for the kill on the ropes and drops Lewis again for good.

A Lewis that actually trained for the fight would win.

    Yep.

I love the amateur psychologists saying Lewis knew deep down he couldn't win a rematch, or Lewis wouldn't be motivated enough to win lol. If Lewis went ahead and signed for this fight, one would assume he'd train his hardest & give his best, seeing as Vitali gave him hell the first time around.

    So Lewis, well trained, wins.

Well obviously a well trained and motivated Lewis wins but the fact is he retired for a reason, he likely asked himself if he could be motivated to put the work in and the answer was no and that's why I assume he retired and stayed retired and if that was the case then he made the right decision.

Lewis was the better fighter. But he was getting on in years.. and not stupid.
Maybe Vitali.. unless old Lewis found a way (because he would be falling behind again).

If Lennox thought he would win there would have been a rematch. It’s that simple.
