Sibson could of taken the title but wouldn't hold it for long Tony was a.hot.n cold type of fighter but I could imagine him winning it back and then losing it again .the middle weights without Marvin would be chaos.

Without hagler......i think minter would still be riding high on confidence and beat top contender hamsho quite handily in london...a couple of easier defences follow v scypion , davison....sibson than wins the title in late 1982...sibson beats obelmejias in london than bests hamsho...by this time the great roberto duran steps up and stops sibson in 13...tommy hearns flattens duran in spring 1984...thus begins a long distinguished reign defending succesfully against wilfred benitez, roldan and don lee .bobby cyyz is stopped in mid 85,before tommy knocks out john mugabi in nov 85 in a superfight before beating herol graham on points in detroit in early 86.....superfight 1986 takes place in october as don curry and hearns fight to a draw in a classic...mike mccallum steps up next in early 1987 and hurts and boxes tommy close but hearns wins a decision despite breaking his right hand in the 13th ....tommy is now 29 injured and forced into a long layoff...he is stripped of all 3 titles ...in his absence in late 1987 ...roberto duran decisions michael olajide for the wba title....kalambay decisions don curry...and mike mccallum knocks out frank tate...88 initially sees duran decisioned by herol graham....kalambay beat barkley.nunn decision mccallum . Unification starts kalambay beats graham and hearns knocks out nunn....worried kalambay doesnt have a big enough states profile top rank arrange for the two to headline a bob arum bill in vegas in early 89 but in a shock kalambay is knocked out by matthew hilton...hearns kos a raw inexperienced nigel benn... but is clearly not the same fighter and is wobbled in the second ...after reunifying the titles by decisioning hilton in a fight he is floored and cut in ...the great tommy hearns at 31 retires acknowledging he is slipping and with only the srl loss on his record.

    Nice detail

I think Obel would stop Sibson, though.

He was tall and rangy, with good power - similar style to Don Lee, who kod Sibson.

I hear and see where your coming from on this Saad.I just feel the Hagler loss and its utterly one sided nature totally demoralized sibson.yet that sibson very nearly beat don lee in the states.i feel a non hagler meeting sibson in his prime circa 1983-84 handles both lee and obelmejias especially since the obel defence would be at home in england.

Very good post apart from Barkley possibly beating Hearns and I can't see Hilton beating Kalambay .Sumbu would take Hilton apart!.

That's a good point. Sibson was probably never as good after Hagler as he was before.

I think Hearns moves up and wins the title from Hamsho or Roldan, either way he would be champ there and he would not have been worn out by the Hagler fight, I think he fights better. The one flaw in Hearns style was his own. He liked to brawl and go for the knockout which left him open to counters. He could have been a boring counterpuncher and he choose in many fights to go for the knockout because he seemed impatient.

at the same time Hearns vs. Mugabi if Hearns hit Mugabi clean I don't think John lasts too long. He showed that he didn't take a great punch, and the Hagler he fought in March of 1986 was rusty and not the same Hagler who fought Hearns or Roldan before. I think Hearns might land a clean punch and get an early knockout.
