It's not like the injury happened by chance-he had cuts punched into his face. Come on. He was getting hammered.

Contrary to what the legions of Klit fans, and the fight commentator said, Vitali was the oe who was hanging on for dear life....

I remember him saying "It's all Lennox can do to stay on his feet" Well, duh... As he was saying this Vitali was trying to bearhug him to stay on his feet along the ropes.

    Vitali was in some trouble.

Still you really can't say one way or another.

Lennox was starting to get to him and seemed like he was getting his second wind.....thats why he was cutting Vitalis face up....the cuts just show he was starting to get to him more and figure him out.

Basically what you're asking is "if no one threw a punch, who would have won?"

If Hasim Rahman hadnt knocked out Lennox in their first fight, who would have won?

The cuts were caused by punches, the stoppage is just as legit as a KO.

Concussion is an injury stopping you continuing just like cuts are an injury stopping you from continuing.

No way of knowing. Lewis was taking Vit's punches relatively well, he was hurt by a big shot though. Vit just isn't as hard a puncher as his KO ratio indicates, if he was, he would have KO'd him out early the way he was landing on him. Lewis threw his best shot at Vit and it stunned him but imo, he wasn't as hurt as people make it out to be, he just hugged Lewis to avoid getting hit again and Vit's footwork is goofy, so he looked like he was stumbling, but he always looks that way, he has no problem looking goofy if he is to avoid getting hit.

I could see either one getting a KO or winning on points, although I see a points win a less likely outcome for Lewis. When Lewis started landing, I thought oh it's over, but Vit came back and started landing again on Lewis and it gave me the impression that it wasn't gonna be a type of fight where Lewis was just gonna recover find the right timing and Vit was ****ed, Vit looked like he wasn't gonna be denied.

    Awesome fight ruined by cuts.

Not really, the cuts showed Lewis landed some shots and that Vit cuts easy. That's about it.

Well considering when they actually fought neither boxer suffered an injury I think it's a safe assumption that lewis would have won by tko just as he actually did.

A cut is no more of an injury than a knockout punch is. Lewis beat vitali so bad he was deemed unfit to continue and that will never change. It's not like he broke his leg, he got beaten up.

Really isn't. A cut win is far and away from a KO win. But some of you are more caught up on who won and desperately giving more credit to the fighter you like.

If it was a different, awesome fight between two less known fighters most people would have just said "oh how sad that it ended this way". We wouldn't get these meticulously written posts attempting to pretty up a boring cut win.

In purely technical terms, absolutely, Vitali was TKO'd. But please, we all know it's not the same. Had it been a punch that hurt Vit and Lewis finished him it would be looked at totally different. Let's not pretend otherwise.

Injury to me= twisting ankle, buckling knee, breaking arm, injuring hand etc.... not getting punched in the eye repeatedly until it busts open and then continuing to get punched in the eye until you can't continue....... it's not an injury when it's cause by punches, that's what you're supposed to do in boxing if you cut someone with a punch you go for the cut both guys know the rules when they step in the ring. That's no injury, that's technical boxing at it's finest by fat/old outa shape Lewis

Lewis had no chance in this fight. Klitschko young man will be destroyer of Lewis.

Winning on cuts while behind on points = dodged a bullet.

It's about as satisfying as Vitali's win over Solis. The difference is, Vitali was disappointed that the Solis fight ended that way.

Lennox just counted his blessings, tucked his tail between his legs and ran away.
