Or would it eleminate the smaller guys from boxing?

Its scary to think about Floyd Mayweather having to fight a prime Foreman or Pac having to fight Sonny Liston. But could those smaller guys come up with some way that allows them to successfuly compete in theory?

I read about Liston sparring a top middleweight contender in the gym shortly after or shortly before Liston became champion. During the sparring session, the middleweight moved so quickly that Liston was unable to land anything through 2 or 3 rounds of just being potshotted.

Liston started to get mad and the middleweights manager stopped the sparring session because he didn't want his man to get hurt in there.

But could the smaller guys put more emphasis on developing great speed to compete against the big boys or would it be totally out of the question?

I think its possible that if fights were 5 rounds or so, a Mayweather could out speed a Foreman or a Pac could outspeed a Liston to keep them from landing and land their own shots to get a decision. But it would be very risky. Then theres the problem of small guys vs the "small" big guys.

For instance, Mayweather may be able to evade a Foreman for a few rounds, but could he evade a Michael Spinks or could Pac evade a Bob Foster?

Over a much shorter fight the small guys, could within reason, still beat bigger fighters. I think that's a fair assessment. The real problem is that the big plodder just has to get lucky ONCE ...
