if these 2 turned pro???would they be a target to hagler,leonard etc???

    I used to box for the gloves by ours you know, John Hyland come in when i was young and showed me how to step in with a bodyshot and not leave my face open. Not sure if we mean the same guy, is definitely the same family though.

    That would be John, brilliant amateur, boxed for the golden gloves, double ABA champ and Olympic rep. Went out in 1984 to SunKil Moon. Beat Hodkinson on a tight one 1982/83

    My mum used to have this chipshop on Smithdown road and i used to help her, Turpi and Bache used to come in and i spoke to them a few times. They wouldnt remember me like, but i certainly remember them. Joe who ran the gloves used to say that Tommy was a terror when he was a youngster!

    Best club ever, should have started younger me. Did your dad start out in there? Was he in the services then? The one where we box?

    good analysis teeto and yes i think these would get well ajusted to the pro game after a while...and yes it was a much better sport back then the whole points bs now......

    i do think that some people do feel uneasy when there is a suggestion that their child hood heros might have not been top dogs if the eastern bloc was pro back then......

    The eastern bloc wasn't even truly dominant in the amatuers at the time, so no reason to feel uneasy.

    Undoubtably some of the russians\cubans etc would have been awesome pro's but others would have come up short.

    yes in the late 70's/early 80's'the eastern bloc was a huge force but not dominant but in the 60's, they were......as dominant as dominant gets....


    also there were also fighters in those countries who did not make it to world championships or olympics but might have been great pros

    It's actually been harder to win a medal in the Europeans than in the Olympics.
    We've just won our first one in nearly 50 years.

    for sure one the greatest soviet fighters ever victor ageev never went to the olympics...but domianted the soviet and european scene....and it's very hard not to see him succeed...

    same with igor vitosky etc many others....
