IF THEY EVER FIGHT, I'd still pick Floyd to beat Pac...

Running a lot does not mean you have great defense. You look at guys like emmanuel, Martinez, and Cotto. They all get on their bicycles to run around the ring whenever they're in trouble, but they end up receiving greater punishment at the end of their fights than economical movement Floyd.

Floyd has developed a more flat footed stand right in front of you style, so he can be more effective as a counter-puncher. He can afford to do it because his defense is THAT great.

This video below is a good explanation of what Floyd's current slick Black American style has evolved into: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81non05aKX4#t=2m25s

Besides, it's not like Morales and Marquez ran around a lot to beat emmanuel.

Footspeed or footwork? Manny has unmatched footspeed, thus giving him a lot of range in the ring. Which is why he presents a big problem for anyone. You can't get away from him if he wants to keep up with you. He is the fastest boxer on the planet in terms of moving from one place of the ring to another. As for footwork....eh, manny is awkward as all hell and technically flawed, but he pulls it off. He'll be off balance leaning left and throwing a punch with his right hand planted completely on his right foot with his left foot completely off the ground lolol.:happy

emmanuel has great footspeed, but Floyd has better footwork.

emmanuel doesn't cut the ring off that well. He never had the need to learn how to do it. When you're that fast and a southpaw, you want to stay in the center of the ring to utilize your speed and stance advantage to its fullest. Most of his important opponents were the come forward guys who come to "fight".

Tough call. We've seen Mayweather be hit cleanest by southpaws before (Judah and Corley) and the shoulder roll defence isn't as effective against the southpaw stance. Manny has fast hands, power and relentlessness. He really will throw upwards of 1000 punches at Floyd. Yet The last guy Pacquiao faced who could actually counter punch effectively and fight off the back foot was Marquez and look what happened. Floyd has far quicker hands, more power, a far better defence, greater size and has a greater ring IQ than Marquez. Interesting fight. And potentially a great one.

On paper, Floyd looks like the winner. He has the advantages of being an excellent boxer, something Manny will have trouble with. Manny gets hit too easily. But, gawd, I would love to see it. Manny could still have a puncher's chance. Maybe all this inactivity will do Floyd more harm then good. LOL

The only thing that's certain is it would be one of the best match ups of all time. One for the history books.

I think if both guys were at their best, Floyd would win a split decision victory. The problem is, I don't think Floyd is in his prime right now while Pacquiao definitely is. I don't think Floyd's mind is in the right place right now. Basically, to put it in Rocky terms, I think he has lost the eye of the tiger. He has admitted this himself by saying he's not sure if he even wants to come back. If he somehow got his mojo back then I could see him outboxing Pac on the way to a very close decision win, but at this point it really does seem like he isn't where he needs to be mentally. Hopefully for the sake of boxing fans everywhere he decides to man up and tame the beast named Manny Pacquiao.

I have to say that even though I feel Floyd would probably eek out a decision, Pacquiao can really punch. The right hook he hit Margarito with in the 10th - wow. He didn't even look like he putting everything behind it but Margarto's head shook really violently. This is a fighter who weighs 148 hitting a guy who weighs 165 and he is REALLY hurting him. It's quite scary.

So would I. There's a kneejerk reaction one way or the other each time one of them fight among the general public.

Bottom line, Floyd boxes Pacquiao's ears off on Cinco De Mayweather 2011.
