How many fights do you think he would have lost? Let's say that Hearns approached each fight looking to out box the opponent (Benitez)....With the different style, would Hearns reverse his loses?
Pure speculation for the fun of it....

I'd say things stay similar. Hearns ended up boxing Leonard in fight 1, he had to get Barkley's respect i think. Stonehands actually thinks Tommy would have quite possibly beat Hagler if he'd boxed, not so sure myself but Stones a great analyst and hey - Tommy's me fave lol

I think similar also. His chin was not up for the hard throwing opponents who could take his punch.

Might have beaten Hagler if he tied him up on the inside.

Wow! That comes as a complete surprise! :D

Duran may have a point regarding his statement, although I think Hagler was a pretty good boxer. In any event, Hagler would have probably always been able to turn it into what it was. I think Hagler was the stronger of the two, and if he wished to impose himself on Hearns.... he would impose himself upon Hearns. It was pretty obvious Hagler could take what Hearns had to give, even though he may have been slightly stunned a time or two.

I think if tommy just boxed for the decision and held when hurt earlier in his career he would possibly be unbeaten still.(or conversely,if he had more durability.)
However, the fact that he went for broke made him the most exciting fighter of the eighties along with iron mickey...

As a side note,i think tommy actually was better at landing his bombs when he set them up by boxing first, when he had a guy in trouble he sometimes got erratic and wild with his shots,eg andries, olijade and to some extent the hagler fight...
Against duran and cuevas beautiful boxing, steady pressure and some flurries set up the right hands.
