If today's HW division is so crappy, then why can't the 90s fighters win a belt?

This is the worst era of heavyweight boxing ever...A couple more years with the klits destroying what great champs like Lewis, holyfield, tyson, holmes, and ali built up. and boxing is truly dead and gone.....

Pretty silly thread to be perfectly honest. I get your pro-Klitschko angle but it appears as though you made this thread on impulse without actually thinking it through:

    1. Liakovich and Brewster were not really a '90s fighters' they made their mark in the 2000s. If you prefer to get technical and use the fact that they they fought in the 90s then I guess I'll have to state the obvious; in the 90s, they didn't ****ing matter. However in the 2000s they each won a piece of the HW title where it was much easier to get a belt given the competition.

    2. Holyfield was jobbed in Germany against Valuev. Given his age, I don't think any reasonable person can expect him to "clean out the division." At this point he's 49 so I don't see how that's possible. And for that matter I don't see how it would even be possible for Ray Mercer to do so given that he's 50 years old. What next is Ali supposed to step out of retirement and fight for the titles?

    3. Shannon Briggs a 2nd tier 90s fighter losing a title bout against Vitaly Klitschko in 2010 is more of an indication that this division lacks depth rather than a reflection of the quality of fighters in the 90s. By the way Shannon Briggs didn't win a major title until 2006 and the reason why is because in the 90s he wouldn't have been able to pick up a belt. The lineal against Foreman was more or less farce considering he was hand picked after Foreman was stripped for not making legitimate defenses and Shannon was essentially given a gift.

    4. Hasim Rahman is pushing 40 years old. I should note that in the 90s he failed to capture a piece of the title but within the last 10 years he regained a piece of the Heavyweight title after scaring Vitaly Klitschko off to retirement. It should be noted that he's fighting one of the divisions elite pretty soon; Alexander Povetkin.

    5. Byrd is retired.

I think the problem with what you're doing is that you think that people will conflate a weak division with a weak champion ruling. That is the angle for this thread. But the thing is most people deep down know that the K brothers are good champions but the division is subpar. In fact, I say unequivocally that that quality of this division is lower than that of the 90s, 80s, 70s and possibly 60s.

In fairness to AA, he was taking a huge amount of Ward's punches to the gloves
Although the jab was effective at keeping AA off him, Ward wasn't scoring a lot of those punches.

Froch was shooting straight through the middle and actually scoring with the jab.

To add to the many inconsistencies that have been pointed out already:

Because the 90s wasn't THAT strong an era itself, despite its very obvious superiority to the current one. It was deeper than the 80s, but a small handful still stood head and shoulders above the fray.

In spite of that, Foreman and Holmes were both genuine ATG legends. Holyfield is the only one on that list, and was involved in far more wars than either of them, hence his earlier deterioration.

3/10 trolling thread from a Klitmaniac.

    :patsch

    You dumb ***git.

The 90's was 2 decades ago. Great fighters in the 80's won belts in the 90's. Great fighters in the 90's won some belts in the 2000's... But you skipped an entire decade.

So you really kind of proved a point. This era is so shitty, you got guys who were title holders and veterans in the 90's who were able to make a little noise in the beginning of the 10's...

    Nice try though.

    Holyfield is a "90s" fighter?
    Turned pro in 1984
Was a cruiserweight champion by 1986 and undisputed champ by 1987
1990 he was the undisputed heavyweight champion.
he last held a piece of the heavyweight title in 2000 with the WBA championship

Mercer was 27 years old when he turned pro in 1988.

basically the who thread are bad examples, the guys who really dont fit the bill as too old "lycovich, brewester, briggs, tua " were considered "young guns" to a lewis, tyson, holyfield era" no they didnt do **** against this era , thats no secret. this era still sucks except the guys who whole the belts named klitchko.

wtf has kevin jonson, chambers, ray austin, solis, valuev, povetkin, chagev done to prove this era doesnt suck?

the fact that tony thompson and ray austin has been in eliminators for title fights 3 times each tells you everything you need to know

 ***** ass attempt to save face. If a dumb**** like you can't see how bad the HW division is, you need to go back to WWE boy...

  13. Holyfield had WBF belt just recently.
If George Foreman came back on Monday,he'd be champ on Tuesday after Wlad pisses his pants and vacates.
Rahman will beat fat Russian slob Povetkin.
